It's Been A Fun Ride

This isn't going to be a rant-filled, hate-fest: I enjoyed this game for almost four years and for me, that's a really, really long time to be playing one game. I said early on, joining this thing right after closed beta, that one day I'd hit a point where I'd be playing another game and realized I hadn't logged into MWO for a week or two, and I'd be okay with that.
First I wanted to thank the team at PGI for putting together a really beautiful game, and especially for breaking down that Unseen Barrier and giving me access to mechs I hadn't been able to pilot since Mechwarrior was a DOS game back in '89 (I'm old).
The Locust, the Archer, the Battlemaster, the MARAUDER? All here, all right where they were supposed to be. And likely there'll be more on the way - I'd expect to see the Phoenix Hawk, if I stuck around much longer.
But this game is going in a direction that's losing me, and rather than stick around and become one of the bitter hangers on who continue to drop in quick play and rant on the forums, I'm leaving on a high note, when most of my memories are positive.
For me, games have to be immersive - they're my escape from the every day. Sure, I get some enjoyment out of the skill aspect, being able to aim my shots, knowing the mech I'm up against and its strengths and weaknesses, in a lot of cases, knowing the pilot behind that mech. But this game always felt like arena team deathmatch and it was becoming clear that, despite all the early plans to the contrary, that's all it'll ever be.
And there's no shame in that: it's a fun game mode - one that kept me interested for over three years. It's been a fun ride, so thank you PGI and thank you to all the people I've played with over the years. Thank you especially to the 5th RCT and the Steiner Hub on Teamspeak.
Maybe I'll see you all around some day.
I really did want that Hatchetman, though...

I'm happy this isn't a pgi-directed hate post, seen too many of those lately.
P.s. If they release the Hatchet man will you come back?

I assume he will be putting his mechs into Diamond Shark owned storage bays, just in case he needs to access them again. We have great facilities setup all around the periphery.

Sorry to see you leave mate, all the best and I hope to drop with/against you again someday.

It's no small task to self-reflect and resign that something you've invested in for as long as you have may no longer be the cup of tea it once was.
I have much respect for folks who can quietly walk away without setting the room on fire.

Heres to hoping a rare day comes that you change your mind and re-load!

For now, I'm hanging onto it. I could see myself dropping in on a match or two a year from now, just to see what's changed, I just won't be dropping every day (or dropping hundreds of dollars) like I was.

Hm...I'd likely pick one up and drop in it just to say I did. Really, though, what I wanted from this was immersion: I wanted to feel like I was fighting for one of the great Houses. I just don't think PGI's going that direction.

Trust me: If you've been playing for this long you'll be back. I took almost a year off from this game before the itch to blow big robots apart got to me again. It might be the same for you.

Baldur's gate (longest played game with my longest non stop gaming session.. 4 days

Tropico (best strategy game i have ever played)
starcraft (my first online gaming addiction)
freedom force (one of the most fun iso mectric games around, with great heroes, and probably one of the best replay values of any game i have ever played as far as diversity)
mass effect (it's in space... and Tali rocks! romance her, you will be rewarded with seeing her face one day)
dragon age (morigan, liliana and sten... best group ever if you are a fighter.. try romancing both, you will have some wonderful banter....... Don't worry about the swamp)
Crusader kings (almost 5, but the amount of hours makes it one of my favs)
Star wars galaxies (my most played game.. at over 8k hours!)
City of heroes. (most unique character builder of any game i've ever played.. and the game play was top notch)
MWO (only FPS that has ever kept my attention for more than a few hours.. guess i like it)
Smurf adventure.. (old colleco vision game... I never knew hopping over bat's could be so much fun!)
But hey, even the great games you just stop playing after a while
Deus Ex (still gotta finish it one day)
Thief (Still need to play thief 2, and 4.. one day it will happen!)
Tomb raider (lara croft... need i say more? )
Fallout.. (great game, just not enough hours)
mech commander. (yup a great game, but i just don't play it much,, i don't think i have even hit 100 hours on it)
Mech warrior 3-4.. (see above)
This list could go on for 100+ games
Like i always say,, stopping playing a game, does not mean it is bad, just not for you at the time. Just like not playing a game past 2 hours, doesn't make it a bad game, just not for you...
Only so many hours in a day... ya can't play um all
HAPPY GAMING!!

The difference being that my wallet has been pretty much closed for years now. I can barely force myself to play with my friends these days, and even the forum warrioring is getting tired enough that I'm reading posts and can't even bother to post even if my read something stunningly well written or stupid.
Won't say I'm not playing anymore, as I might play the odd match in the future, but newer games are in the pipeline and there's been nothing done around here that encourages sticking around.
OP, Good luck and good gaming.
