Sure its because the EBJ is an ominmech soome items are fixed
Where as a Kodiak and IIC's are battlemech (nomimech I think someone called them) where hard points are fixed but equipment not

Sort of (only starting to get my head round omnimechs in MWO)
You'd on;y need to buy a XL-325 if you want to use it in a different mech but the EBJ you have will ALWAYS have that engine

Mechwarrior Online explanation:
A Battletech can change anything except the Hardpoints for its weapons and advanced equipment (,ECM, AMS).
An Omnimech has switchable body parts allowing you to change the Hardpoints of the mech. As a result you cannot change the structure, armor type, engine or certain "fixed" equipment. The flexibility you have can really be quite a bit unfair compared to most Battlemechs anyway.
-----
Battletech explanation if you care:
An Omnimech can have its entire load out changed within a few hours at the most and can be repurposed on the fly to suit any mission or planet; limited only by the prestige aka Bloodname (Clan-side) or wealth (Inner Sphere) of the pilot.
This rapid customization is only rapid so long as all the equipment remains compatible, as such armor configuration, skeleton, and occasionally a few specific areas of the Omnimech cannot be tampered with. We call the equipment fixed out of convenience and ease of understanding.
A Battlemech is factory produced and major changes are done at the factory and may require weeks to months. Even minor changes like removing two medium lasers in exchange for a medium pulse laser can take.... (tries it).…. this time it took my technician and 9, assistant technicians (AsTechs) 4 days, which they botched it, fixing it took another day. So 5 days and that's kinda quick.
In reality every single thing on a Battlemech is the same as an Omnimech's fixed equipment. This is why it takes so long in Battletech. MWO doesn't reflect this, or repair and rearm, so sometimes it seems like Omnimechs are inferior, especially with the Hardpoint inflation many mechs are getting. However the control over your Hardpoints is control over so much more than engine.
