Well fellow MechWarriors, after LONG hiatus of not playing MWO, I've started playing again at semi-regular pace.

Having recently checked my headshot count, I find I'm only 9 headshots away from 600 (... for those bad at maths, that's 591 headshots).

As my previous 500th headshot celebration (http://mwomercs.com/...ot-celebration/), I will award the 'lucky victim' of my 600th a 'mech pack of their choice (of up to 75 dollar value).

Now, 9 headshots might not seem like an large number, and under "normal" circumstances it really isn't, BUT, I'm suffering under an AT&T routing malf that has caused my ping to go from a range of 60-80, to 180-200+ (mainly due to AT&T routing ALL my communication to PGI's servers to Europe, which then gets routed BACK to NA).

Getting HSR to acknowledge a headshot with a ping that high has been rather... problematic, to put it mildly.

So until either AT&T resolves their malf'd router, OR, I get fed up and switch my internet to TWC (the most reasonable alternate ISP in my area), I'll be suffering the latency handicap.

In the mean time I'll try and keep everyone posted and everyone, good luck!''

UPDATE:

Woot! We have a winner!

StormTempter!!!

I'll be contacting him in game to find out what 'mech pack he wants!

I'll update this thread accordingly!

For his prize, StormTempter chose 4 of the Clan heros, the Kitfox, Stormcrow, Timberwolf, and Direwolf.

All great choices!

See you guys when I'm nearing 700!

I wondered how far along you were, congrats on being that close.

If its any consolation, ever since this AT&T thing has been happening the stability for me in NA servers has gone to hell, and I'm crashing every two matches or so

As long as you're at it, would you care to comment on the cyclops head?

Are you getting more headshots on them than the other mechs?

I started having stability issues too (along with the aforementioned latency/ping issues).

I was able to track it down to Windows 10 Runtime Broker, which had either been activated because of something I unknowingly did, or because Microsoft sucks behind, either way, I recommend unless you REALLY need all the integration crap they force on you, do the following to save yourself some headaches:

Click on Start - Settings - Privacy, and start disabling stuff you're not using, ESPECIALLY in the "Background Apps" section.

Once I did that, it eliminated a huge memory/CPU draw that was occurring and causing me to crash out of the game every hour or so...

I am not, but again, with the ping/latency issues that AT&T has inflicted upon me since around the beginning of September, I've only been able to get ONE headshot to register (on a Stalker, if you're interested).

The Cyclops, "should" be an easy headshot, HOWEVER, PGI has 'apparently' resized the cockpit on most 'mechs to be a 4 pixel by 4 pixel box, extremely difficult to hit on even a stationary 'mech at any distance over 100 meters.

I would imagine the Cyclops has the same extremely teeny-tiny hitbox for the cockpit as just about every other 'mech in this game now.

So when you hit 600, are you going to finally use something other than a King Crab? :D

I should know this, but how can you tell how many headshots you've achieved?

LOL, probably not. I haven't found another dual gauss platform I like more.

Look under Achievements, find the Guillotine achievement, the count is there (up to the first 1000 anyway).

Dude, how on earth do you get head shots in those numbers??? I have been playing for years and have only killed a couple mechs with them, by pure luck.. and myself i think i've only gotten killed by a head shot maybe twice??

and once i swear the guy was using an aim bot, as he was flying around in a spider at top speed, and i was moving and twisting and he hit me 3 times in the head, but i was killed by something else.. and i saw him in another match, i think the next one, and again he kept tagging me in the head. (that match he did kill me) Maybe he was really that good that he could run at 160KPH, and fly through the air like superman and hit a moving mech in the head.. but i found it highly suspicious to say the least... :P

I bet you, and I KNOW most people, aren't actually TRYING to get the headshot.

"MOST" people, and I assume you, are looking for the most expedient kill. See the big VERY RED torsos? You shoot that.

Me? I'm looking to see if I have a viable shot at the cockpit.

My scores reflect that. I have lots of kills, but a low average damage, because typically, if I miss the cockpit, it's a torso hit, and if that torso is crit red...

People doing that probably are utilizing some form of 'third party assistance' to be that consistently accurate while moving, and shooting at a moving target.

It can be done. But you have to focus on just that one objective to be successful. When you really focus and get your tactics together, it can be done in a couple of month.

Edit: See you on the battlefield Dimento! :-P

I would argue the 'couple of months' time line.

Keep in mind, we're constantly battling the less than perfect ballistics hit registration and the whims of HSR.

It could PROBABLY be done in about a year, averaging somewhere near 100 headshots per month, BUT, that's a LOT of game play.

I defy ANYONE to consistently get 100 headshots per month without... 'artificial assistance' of some kind.

PLUS, if you're into playing faction warfare, it'll slow you down even more because last I knew, most of what you do in faction warfare DOES NOT count towards achievements (otherwise I'd probably be somewhere near 800 by now).
