[three-variant skill tree complaint]

then i went into the 'skills' tab in the main menu and selected the Mauler and it says i cannot progress beyond basic skill bonuses unless i buy two more Maulers.
can someone explain me why?
i dont want any other Mauler, because for what i like to do the MX90 has the best bonuses and mount points for the weapons.
i dont want, i am not interested and i do not care about any of the other Mauler variants, yet i am forced to throw my time down the toilet grinding for credits to buy TWO more of the same exact chassis and run the same exact loadout just to unlock a stupid skill tree for the one mech i want to play?
literally why do you force players to go through this?
why do i have to be forced to grind through stuff i do not want while i could be spending those credits on different mechs?
no, because you are clearly not allowed to have fun in this game.
the grind must be so ridiculous so overwhelming to leave you no other choice apart grinding your balls off day and night or spending money to avoid the grind.
i bet you do this just to force me to use 3 out of 4 of my garage slots so after that i am pretty much FORCED to give you money for more garage slots if i ever want to master the skill tree of another chassis.
well i have bad news for you: not even free2play tank games have limited pay2win garage slots anymore, just see Armored Warfare, you can have all the vehicles you want and keep all of them completely for free.
now that is an actual free2play game, because player progression is not locked behind purchases you have to do with real money, while this game is more of a colossal well thought yet poorly disguised scam.
the fact that you deliberately blatantly try to scam money out of players to allow them progression through the game pisses me off so much that completely kills my interest and my will to support your game because you are basically treating your players like if they were idiots that cannot see through a scam even when it hits them in the face.
i have to say before figuring out your '3 mechs to unlock skill tree yet only 4 free garage slots' scam i actually took a look at the camos and the decals and all the customization you could do in this game, and i was actually close to invest money in this game and support your company, but now that i saw your 'free2play' game for the real massive scam it is i dont want to give you a single dollar of my money because you do not deserve any.
i guess this serves you as a lesson to not try to scam your players if you want their support.

Good luck to you in Armored Warfare, and never touch any of the 'World of' games because if the grinding in MWO frustrates you, those will straight up wreck your mind.
Also, this is some terrible formatting. Put gaps between your paragraphs and use the shift key, please.

People keep trying to justify the differences when coolrun and heat containment are still damned important in the grand scheme of things, but ultimately spending more time that you normally would need to max out a chassis is... ludicrous at best.
I get that people should buy mechbays and all, but C-bills take time to accumulate, and only grow when you as a player get better. When the bad players stay bad, and the good players stay good (and usually more rich), this discrepancy takes a long while to sort out depending on how you spend your time and money (virtual or real).
That's one of the core problems about the NPE that requires a literal fundamental change to solve (removing the 3 variant requirement or at least replacing it with something more reasonable - even if it's double/triple mech XP to unlock the next efficiency).

You might find you really like some of the other variants.
I did.

It's true that you can enjoy other variants.
The problem is that some mechs don't have great options.. like the Spider-5V or Vindicator-1X. Why torture people to grind out the worst variants in some cases? (I'm not even suggesting buying the heros, as that is not a true F2P option.) In the case of the omnimechs, many variants are redundant (you can rebuild the same thing on different variants in most cases).

That said, pretty much all of the OP's complaints are... not specific to MWO.
One other note, there's events that give away mechbays with some regularity, IIRC, so keep an eye out and you probably don't even need to ever shell out for those, either.
Deathlike's right about the fact many mechs have sucky if not downright terrible options as variants go... I do not believe the Mauler is one of them, though.
Edit : Waiting for Global Ops to poke my nose back in AW, OP.

The last one was that FW event, and that's not the most ideal place to start your new player journey into mechbays.
This year alone, not many mechbays were offered. I suggest you take an honest look at when these things were actually offered.

Then PGI just needs to run a few Double GXP MC Conversion events. PGI still get's money from the exchange, but players aren't required to grind out a whole bunch of chassis they may not like.
Let's face it, apart from the Poke'Mech players (like myself), most people will only buy the few chassis that they like/do well in/are the META/have nostalgia for.

Besides, AFAIK you get a free mechbay once you hit level 2 with any of the Factions. So you can basically sign up for a faction, play the 10 first matches without getting any rewards, then reach lvl 2, leave the faction, wait for 7 days, repeat.

Thanks for trying MWO and we understand if you leave. I'll never recommend MWO to my friends until many core issues are fixed. I've been giving constructive criticism for 3.5 years and sarcastic apathy posts for about a year now. You can only be so constructive before you get cynical talking to dart boards, shadows, and god complexes.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Armored Warfare require you to unlock vehicles rank by rank before you can purchase them? Isn't that an XP wall to grind through before you can get to the best units?
The problem you face is basically MechWarrior: Online has a system that allowed you access to your favourite Mech, a 90-ton Mauler Assualt. I guess you could say that, were this a different game with a tech tree unlock, you wouldn't have been able to use your coveted Mauler for months, based on where it would most likely be, at the end of a tech tree.
Ok, so you also haven't figured out that you can still play your Mauler as is, while you save up enough C-Bills to purchase your next one. You'll need 43000 more XP to Elite it, which is something I'm sure you'd be keen on. Lucky for you, PGI is running an event right now that will bag you eight million C-bills by the end of it, not counting the C-bills you earn along the way. That should be enough to purchase your second Mauler, no problem.

Granted, PGI is not really good at explaining their tech tree system, even though you must have missed multiple hints within the gameplay tips panel during match start-up, which plainly spell it out for you. Would it be better if 90-ton Mechs were at tier IX, and you had to grind XP for months to get to your favourite Mech?

If, IF, they rebuild the skill tree (BIG If), then it would be awesome to see something a bit more RPG like, or something similar to Mechcommander 2 Pilot Skills.
Being able to specialize your various chassis for specific roles would be awesome (not AWS Awesome, either). Currently we just have a generic unlock that MUST be completed for maximum efficiency. If we had to make CHOICES for what Talents each mech had, we would (potentially) have huge variety in play styles, even within individual Chassis. My TBR-Prime might play completely differently to another TBR-Prime, because I may have gone for Cooldown and Agility Quirks, where as the other player may have gone for Range and Mitigation quirks.

Or... is it a steam player who is logging onto the forums for the first time...?

I know, it's heretical, you absolutely will be objectively weaker than other players with elited mechs.
Here's the thing, though. It's not actually THAT big of a deal. It's a decent boost, but hardly the difference between success and failure. Just play the game and enjoy your Mauler, and if you decide you want another eventually, go get one. If not, get something else. If you don't want any other mechs ever, that's fine too. Seriously, we're not talking a 100% increase in efficiency here.
