I had a myst lynx do this on HPG on the very first game i tried with my new SSD, (fps8-40!-huge difference), took it out with an ac10 to the torso using the best arm shooter in the game(DRG) from about 400m away.

However, there are a lot of pilots atm who think the ONLY way to bring down a light is by legging it and the jj maneuver may well buy you enough time to get off a couple more shots if you only have one leg left, they will get you when you land but not if you get them from the air.

Side note-what will get me to open my wallet, stories like this because now I need 3 more mech bays to buy some Vipers, I will then need cammo and cockpit junk, Im also keen to try the JR7 (II) so maybe I need 6. Better PC performance has rekindled my interest in the game, esp light chassis.

I actually think this is how all Jump Jets should work. They are meant to be used for extreme re-positioning, not floating like a **** in a swimming pool.
But, it's yet another thing that has suffered due to half-measures.

Heat doesn't dissipate if you're midair due to Jumpjet nerfs, and you take major leg damage, so I'm not sure how that's really helpful?

Wrong. Jump Jets produce a fixed amount heat only while in use (Determined by # of JJs), not from just being airborne. Just like the Engine does when it's in use, although the Engine generates heat depending on the percentage of power-to-throttle being used and its rating. JJ's do not 'disable' Heat Dissipation, but depending on the number of JJs and number of Heat Sinks, generate enough heat to slow down dissipation or outright build up heat... Again, only while actually being used.

when im in an assault i hate it when the enemy does this. means i actually have to earn my kill. i call it a semi-effective strategy. what i like to do is shoot their leg armor off so they leg themselves when they hit the ground.

Mole's found one of the secrets of jump jet judo. Jets used to do unexpected turns and maneuvers is a good thing. I'd use the straight burn as a way to confused other lights so that they keep running and shoot them as i land.

I've been playing with my Viper lately, and there is a fun tactic that I believe only the Viper is capable of at current. Oftentimes when I have just traded with an enemy and I realize I am about to get flattened I'll just punch the Viper's rocketship power jumpjets as hard as I can and I sail so far up that I leave the firing arc of the mech I was dueling on the ground which gives me enough time for my weapons to cooldown and gather some breathing room before I slam back into the dirt and rejoin the fight. I've won quite a few fights this way. I'm basically using my jumpjets as a sort of emergency 'duck and cover' I guess. Anyone else do this?

Not the same, i play my vipers a lot, i even resently got the special prime variant (i needed 1 more collector pack to get the clan reward XD ) and what i do when trading with a heavier enemy is i run straigth at them just enough to get to 80 K/ph and then kick the JJ's and just pass over their heads, and it helps me to get a lot of back shots, its a really usefull maneuver, but not so great for long trades (the vyper is really fragile)

Mole> and I have now lost aggro

There's the problem, your thinking that other players are like PVE opponents.

One day someone's going to hand your *** to you with that tactic.

This tactic really never work against "good" players...

I have been strike by a Huggin yesterday, he has jump to avoid me, i've wait him to land (it fly less high cause only 2xJJ), when he came to the ground i have give him an alpha strike in return. RIP poor light mech...

As a mechwarrior who drive a lot of lights mechs (and enjoy them), i can tell you, you shouldn't do this tactic in a brawl. You are really an easy target in the air and when you put your feet on the ground. It's better to just run away while dodging. You'll be fast.

No matter the viability of this tactic, I'd just like all JumpJets to have the performance of the ones the Viper has.

Make JJs worth something besides a small turn assist (1 or 2) or small ridge clearer (4 or more) at slow speeds.
