Torchlight 2 and Borderlands 2 will give it a big run for the money. Going to be a close race.

Loving the first game I was hoping D3 would bring the feeling of going to hell. D3 Sucks played it and felt like I was playing WoW

Yeah, I'll be perfectly honest here, I was sorely disappointed in D3. I figured with 12 years to come up with something Blizzard would've topped D2 in every single way... and it flat out didn't. The replayability to me is incredibly low. The boss encounters are tedious and reminiscent of end-game WoW bosses combined with Final Fantasy style cut scenes. The entire game felt more like a chore than a joy to play. It just didn't manage to capture and hold me the way D1 & D2 did. I put in literally hundreds, maybe even thousands of hours on D2. With D3 I beat it once as the mage, halfway through with the Barbarian and got to Act I with each of the other characters and I can't bring myself to boot it up again.

If you guys think Diablo 3 sucked you didn't play very many games this year.

Resident Evil: Raccoon City, Spec Ops: The Line, Prototype 2, Lollipop Chainsaw.... There's a lot of games worse than Diablo 3 out there.

There's still Torchlight 2, Darksiders 2, Prototype 2, Borderlands 2, etc.

We can win in F2P games, provided Dota 2 doesn't go full.

If you like Diablo, you should definitely buy Torchlight, can't say much else since I haven't played Diablo though :)

Torchlight 2 is being made by the Guys from Diablo 2...
Personally i play D3 because... PENDING everyday...
And because i loved D2LOD.

Diablo3 is Diablo 3 Light. The Beta and Pre's were better than the Finished product, because it was to complicated for the Target Group i guess. And the Players in the Target Group are playing it like Maniacs... The players around 15-25
D3 1.03b is now D3 Light on Easy mode. And now they are refining the Legendary Items...

I will give D3 another try when it hits 1.05 or so... D2 needed at least this many Patches to be the Game we all loved..

But Yeah Torchlight 2 is comming out made by Ex-Blizzard North and it will feel more like Diablo 3 then Diablo3 Light on Easy mode made by Blizzard US

Just because another game sucks worse doesn't make D3 suck any less.

Personally, I don't think it is a terrible game. It had a lot to live up to based on its legacy. As others mentioned, it did not blow me away and there are things I really did not like at all. The new abilities system is worse and seems like change for change sake. The graphics were ok and an improvement from D2 obviously. Whether enough for some people is another question. The grind and boss fights honestly were not that much different from D2 or D1.

Now, there are two things that I absolutely hate about the game. First is the always online. This is the main reason I don't play it anymore. I travel for work and hotel connections are notoriously bad for maintaining connections for gaming. I seem to have worse problems with the 'single player' D3 servers than on many MMOs. The way they handled this is terrible. I will not be buying another Blizzard single player game if there is no offline play, period. I know that it is there form of DRM, but it just does not work. Secondly, the top tier grind is an obvious money grab. It has become apparent that at the highest lvls, you cannot make enough gold to keep up with repairs. So, you need to use the auction house to buy and sell and probably put in real cash to continue playing. No thank you. If I want a recurring payment, it will be for a real MMO with a persistent world server, not a randomly generated map that could be run from my pc.

Blizzard has always improved on game play modes innovated by others and have been very successful doing it. They put games out when they were ready and polished. Since WoW's second or third (maybe first) expansion, and Starcraft 2, their business decisions and game quality have steadily declined. I wonder if this is a consequence of too much money? Too much oversight? Delusions of their own infallibility? I don't know, but Blizzard is falling down on my list very quickly as a maker of games I must have, to a maker of games I will not buy.

The always online thing bothers me for a single player game. I play EVE quite a bit, and any long time EVE player knows to expect daily downtimes (scheduled for 30 mins but usually lasting 15 now), and expansion days that they are usually a few hours behind the target time, and then bringing the server down again for a hotfix 30 minutes after its back online. The thing is, I expect this from an online game. If I get home from work and want to play my single player game I shouldn't need to worry if the server is down or my internet is out.

D3 was just boring. Not bad, just boring. It was, in my opinion, too much like Diablo 2, which I could never care much for. It's not that I dislike either game, though, I just found them to be... boring. It's like WoW, the kind of game that looks kind of cool but when you actually play it you just flat out get bored really fast and just don't bother.

If D3 becomes Game of they year I feel truly sorry for the gaming industry.
One of the worst games I played this year, and I played many.
Blizz was playing far too much on the success of the previous 2 Diablo games when they created this game, and that is unfortunately far too common in this day and age.

Its no longer about quality but quantity.
Developers and especially publishers are far more interested in how much money the can make off the game on pre-orders and initial sales than the replayability and content of the game.
I mis the times when developers actually created quality games.

I fail to see the greatness in diablo 3 that others claim is there. In reality its just alot of clicking and killing and occasionally changing armor/weapons or press a number key. There is very little variation in the game and thats pretty much how the rest of the Diablo games have also been. It takes very little skill, nor effort, to simply click an enemy and watch its health go poof and if you take damage simply pop one of your skills. Not my favorite series from Blizzard.

But I agree that there are HOPEFULLY going to be many more games to come out that are much better than Diablo 3 in the eyes of the gaming community and the judges or whoever decides game of the year.

Starcraft was amazing. 10 years later, Starcraft 2 was even more amazing.
Diablo 2 was amazing. 10 years later, Diablo 3 sucked ***.

now, why is this? they had 10 years to make a game and they brought us what looks like a bad RPG knock off. Skills and attributes were not customizable. Inferno difficulty was impossible unless you had a Demon Hunter or Wizard. No replayability. Graphics dont even make one of my 460s sneeze, let alone 2. Characters were hollow. Storyline made vitrually no sense (Random Angel in classic Forest First level, Mandatory Desert Level, Castle Level, then the Special Rainbow Bridge race ). You HAD to use the auction house to get anything that was worth taking a dump in let alone lasting 2 minutes in open combat. With the introduction of the Real Money auction house, you cant get good equipment anymore without paying REAL money. ***! people can actually use Diablo 3 as a job now.

Borderlands was amazing with replayability because of its awesome weapons. the fact that every gun you picked up was different made killing every enemy and looting every chest intresting.
