Specifically for Mechtoberfest where the objective is to get a KMDD, I think IS mechs like the Huginn and Oxide are just as powerful as the Arctic Cheetah. Heck, a couple times during the event my Huginn KMDD has been an Arctic Cheetah.

For mediums and heavies Clan probably has the advantage, though I haven't had any issues getting a KMDD with the Centurions and Cataphracts I've been leveling up during the event. While the Kodiak is a powerful mech I've also had no problems getting KMDDs with the King Crab.

I own all IS 'Mechs which are all mastered and slowly making progress through Clans (for C-bills). I play normally at first, piloting those 'Mechs I am grinding to Master which currently is the Ice Ferret (was grinding the Ebon Jag but now finished) then I switch back to IS for the remaining weight classes (Huginn, Resistance Black Knight and Founder Atlas)

My most successful KMDD farming mech is the Commando 1B.

Damned if I know how or why but it is.

The clan mechs are suppose to have a lot of fire power, but less armor. Given the fact you can tweak the armor on clan mechs, they generally are tough to kill AND have a ton of firepower. That makes them ultimately better than the IS mechs in this iteration of the game. On top of that they have clan XL engines which give them a lot of free tonnage and more speed than their IS counterparts. I tried the same thing the OP did and wanted to use my IS mechs, but ultimately ended up changing to a Dire, Timber, Hunchie IIC, and Jenner IIC for my KMDD's.

I did something a bit different than most, I swapped between IS and clan on each day to keep it interesting (one day clan, one day IS). I actually didn't use many meta setups, but went with what moved me at that moment. For some it took a few extra games to get the KMDD with that specific class, but really all you had to do was put out a majority of the damage done to someone who eventually dies - that's really not a IS-only or Clan-only trait....

I plaxeyed IS and Clanner:

Lights:
PPC-Adder
Cheetah
Jenner D
Oxide

Medium:
ShadowCat PPC
CICADA 3M LPulse

Heavy:
Dual Gauss Nightgyr
Warhammer

Assault:
Kodiak Dakka
Atlas DDC Brawler

Bad much fun With that Jenner D hunting down enemy cheetahs. Was able to solokill almost 2 Cheetahs with hat Jenner in a 2:1 situation - Better movement, with its jjs than the oxide!

I never wanted to say that it can't be done with either/or, just that events like these are a good reminder where the faction balance stands when the over all best mech(s) in each class are all clan tech.

I played the event on two accounts.
On the Clan-Account i prefered:
JennerIIc (6ersml),viper(7ersml),ebj(6mpl)/summoner(2erppc),gargoyle(12ersml)/kdk(4lbx10,4ersml)
For IS:
Locust(6spl),Griffin(4srm4,2flamer),quickdraw (3lpl), Zeus(2lrm15art,3ml,1uac5)

Overall (best rides for kmdd):
Locust,Viper, Quickdraw, Gargoyle/Kodiak
Best/most consistent Mech:
Quickdraw

Note: I have only Zeuses as IS assaults

Probably it depends on your playstyle what mech work and what mech doesnt work for you.

Overall Conclusion:
I didnt liked the event, it was too long and sometimes i felt forced to to play classes i dont prefer (IS Assault) or dont liked to play on that day(some days i only wanted to ride locust/viper/quickdraw just for the sake of fun and the event forced me out of the "flow").

Edit:Both accounts are tier2.

I've been levelling a mix both IS and Clan Mechs, same as usual.

Frankly it's just easier in most Clan Mechs. Survivable XLs, lighter weapons make a huge difference.

I'm usually not trying to complete it first game, itll come one way or another, so i tend to just play whatever im leveling / my ShadowCat due to it being my favourite mech to drive.

If im in a hurry though, and want it asap?

ADR-Prime (2xPPC) - i hate lights, this one plays like a medium..
SHD-2K (3xLPL) - by far and away my best performing medium in terms of damage averages.
GHR-5P (3xLPL, 3xML) - my most reliable heavy. If im honest, not been doing great in Night Gyrs.
KDK-3 (2xUAC5/2xUAC10) - Duh. Tbh though, my CP-Sliepnir (2xUAC5/2xAC5/XL375) has been performing exceptionally while leveling, no need to use the KDK.
