Sounds like exactly what they are supposed to do.

Sounds like a boring class to me. There is a reason that games try to spice up characters like the Medic from TF2 and Mercy from Overwatch, there gameplay was boring if it was just healing friendlies. Same thing applies to lights, except healers are essential to team compositions in Overwatch/TF2, lights aren't in MWO, that is a huge problem because you now have a class that not only isn't fun to play, but isn't even as useful as other classes. That is what lead us to the problem we have now where PGI is yet to announce a new light in over a year.

Just because weight class balance is better than previous entries (though that is somewhat debatable), that doesn't mean what we have now is acceptable.

What is your attachment to lights? If they are as bad as you claim just quit playing them.

Again I keep seeing you guys say they need to be combat effective. Yet I see no suggestions of how to do that and keep things balanced. If you don't want to play a support role then don't do it! Nobody forces you to be a light.

We could say the same if the MKII sucked. I'm sure that would go over well right?

There's nothing else to really do in this game but to shoot each other. Unless PGI would design a proper gamemode to makes Lights a premium goto thing, it's never going to work they way you'd think.

Having Lights do something other than shoot things in the current game is almost always detrimental to winning.

They need to be smaller than they currently are, more agile relative to bigs than they currently are, and have more range than current light-weight weapon options possess.

That's how.

Lights are not a support class.

You have been for 8 months. Again what's the huge fascination with light? I did play a light ever once in a while. Scouted, chewed back armor, caused the other team to panic, and my team would roll them. I did hit and runs and it was fine. I knew the playstyle I was going to be forced to play when I piloted the light mech.

So if you don't like that playstyle then why play it? Again I will ask you why do you play a light mech?

Lights don't needs "buffs" the game modes need fixed. Limitations need to be added forced (3/3/3/3).

Lights aren't actually good at that play-style. That's what you do not seem to understand.

I've played Lights since the beginning... sometimes not so much in the different eras of the game. It's way more than 8 months.

There's more to Lights than just that, especially when opponents that have a clue would not give you the time of day... which isn't as many as there should be (there's a lot of potatoes), but you haven't been truly challenged.

I enjoy the playstyle.. but I'd rather serve a purpose that isn't strictly something I could do better with a heavy.

Playing a Light mech isn't solely about squirreling... it's about making sure you know what the opfor is doing.

Lights need buffs like the Kodiak-3 needs nerfs.

Forcing limitations doesn't actually make people play Lights... it just makes them fill up on bigger weight classes... which was normally the case when that system was in place (and keeps hitting the valves almost reliable like clockwork).

Ok so here we go...

I've been pushing for a new engine upgrade or swap. Were you in favor of that proposal?

Possibly could address engine speed cap limitation (aka higher speeds without warping) though this won't stop me from shooting you I beat Doom 4 on Nightmare. Strait up twitch shooter and headshots matter. So it's not a buff because MWO is still slower than every twitch shooter, but I digress.

Smaller. (Define small) the rescale already through out 90% of mech design lore

Might help some but against the high level play where people can aim this again won't change much of anything.

Light weight weapon options.

So every time I bring up the Mad Cat MK II many start crying about timeline and balance because of new weapons. Which is it? Also rumored to be an engine issue.

8 month comment was addressing the Mad Cat MK II statement it doesn't bother me you can say it sucks all day. Going back to reading your post.

If you force 3/3/3/3 (that means you turn off the valves)
Scouting is (learning/knowing what the opfor is doing)
Kodiak does not need nerfs. Also you're comparing one mech to a whole class.
I don't know how a heavy scouts better than a light that comment baffled me.

This thread has taken a very, very bad turn. Everyone should probably just call a cease-fire and cool off before things (somehow) get more personal.

I tried to get back on topic. As for the insults I have issued zero insults. It's already personal for some. I still have people that follow me around for some odd reason.

I'm indifferent, mostly because it doesn't make a difference in the sense that we're going to get another dozen mechpacks next year and next to no changes either way.

It won't in the sense that the netcode in this particular patch is actually worse than before.... and I'm feeling those effects.

Pretty much most Light mechs need to be smaller... closer to what they were before before being scaled up.

You keep using "engine issue" for everything, when it's really between the ears in one balance overlord's job (aka the guy who could actually do this stuff actually left PGI - so all old code is practically Lostech).

We've had no new weapons for at least 2 years, and it'll be 3 or so once "Mechcon" gets mentioned a few more times.

You should probably start you post with that in mind (for context).

My point is... a whole class actually needs buffs, whereas the focal point in the current game is pretty much Kodiak-3s (with some variations) and everything else is target practice.

MWO puts a cap on your own movement speeds relative to weight. Doom has no such thing. If done right, the larger 'Mechs will be even slower at tracking Lights than they currently are, so you will not be pulling off rapid, bouncing twitch-shots left and right no matter what.

Reply to OP: No, we don't. You and some others do though.

I'd be happier to see the clock reset to 3050, and have some actual gameplay related content added instead of more mechs.
Especially any mechs from that POS known as MW4.

I don't have to considering I'm one of the assault pilots for my team, the problem is that every league has tried to force the use of lights because they are a part of the game (would be silly to disregard 1/4 to 1/5 of the mechs in the game because they are poorly balanced).

You still never explain why we should have a less useful and less fun class in a PvP game.

Again, you don't get it, support roles have to be useful for them to be worth playing, lights aren't more useful than a medium at this point. Lights do nothing a larger mech can't do already, especially now that they are super large.

They're far, far, faaaar more important to the history and lore and design of the game than a single 90 ton knockoff Clan Battlemech, that's for sure.

They are more important to the lore than most of the IIC knockoffs. Don't get me wrong, I like the IICs, 'specially the Highlander and the Rifleman. But I consider them of lesser importance to ensuring Lights have a place in game.

I don't even know where you're going with that. We are talking about light balance. Reading comprehension strikes again. People derailed ops thread because they got triggered reading one of my tweets telling a light pilot to quit crying about what's fair. Honestly until collisions are added to the game you have no right to address "light balance".

Also MWO does not care one bit about lore so let's not try to use that crutch.

That's not a legit excuse, since it's not a frequent thing to "run though" bigger mechs as a Light, since ultimately it doesn't help the Light in most cases (passing through a guy in a chokepoint is the only exception) as it gets makes the Light far more vulnerable than whatever mech they ran though.

If you're going to use that excuse all the time (because you don't even see that at a high level of play), then good luck to you.
