Tie-dyed or oily film on a puddle?

Sometimes I think peace train. Sometimes I think fluid leak.

A couple of artists took a few blowtorches to the mech for an hour, and then took a thermal scan, then painted it accordingly.

The only positive explanation I can think of, is that the texture artist (Lauren?) wanted to show everyone that she had made a pattern with 3 layers that you can do lots of stuff with. You can create a dirty, battle-worn look if you use 3 similar colours, you can create a Tron / Enhanced Ima-jing look if you highlight the edges with bright colours, you can create weird, psychadelic paintjobs, you can do it all.

However... I didn't realize this until after I got this mech. I thought it was some kind of fluorescent, oily skin that would make all paintjobs look ugly, like the purple sheen or the hexagonal pattern on the old loyalty mechs. I only realized you could do a lot of cool stuff with it after it was too late to earn more "loyalty" rewards.

Which is fine, really. Who knows, I might have been tempted to spend more money, so I could get Nicolai Malthus' special Summoner with a paintjob that makes it look like the Battletech cartoons.

It is probably supposed to be Titanium. Titanium crystals often have that rainbow look to them.

My guess is that it is supposed to look like heat colored metal.

Yeah, that is what I was getting at with my post. That is exactly what I thought when I saw them.

What colouring on which Mech ?

Mad II ?
Loyalty mechs ?
Super Nova ?

I have to say I'm not to keen on this current fad for Half tempered Steel, or a paint job that looks like a bad 70's Scifi effect, and I'm hoping that it ends soon, but really please give us a reference, as the folks are making coments on wild guesses Posted Image

Well. I can never look at Titanium the same way again.

I didn't like the default color scheme at all, but it has some nice properties. Its similar to how ghost bear camo works in that the color choices interact with each other.

I used mine to turn my mechs into Iron Warriors and Khorn Berzerkers.

Come on guys, its a throwback to the older "Predator" style thermal vision we had before grey mode was introduced.

I had a lot of fun playing with the different colours. So much better than I expected with what they showed, as I love obnoxiously "loud" paintjobs.

I was hoping the colors would becomes more dominant or subdued depending on the lighting, your temperature, or the outside temperature. I went to Terra Therma on the testing grounds and ran through lava flows and such and I can't really notice much of a change. On the black jack the blues did seem a bit more prominent in darker areas and oranges more so in the light, but that may have been my imagination. I couldn't replicate this on maps like River City.

That being said, I am definitely enjoying the different combinations you can make. I painted up the Hellbringer in Steiner Light Blue with the default blue on the edges and it looks very Ghost Bear. Posted Image

The new loyalty scheme is pretty flexible in terms of how you can make the mech look depending on color combos. Like the others mentioned, I got the same oily puddle/predator heat vision/colored steel vibe from it.

The skins are pretty versatile. Rusty/tarnished looking metals work well. You can always do one colour too.

It also doesn't ruin camo patterns that you place over top of it so you know, if you really want to replace it with a one-shot camo pattern, you can.

"America-pops" as they are sold in my local groceries freezer section, were bigger and tasted better when they were known as "Bomb Pops".

As to the loyalty mechs paint. I like going the "Tron" route and doing primary and secondary both obsidian and the tertiary color as desired (I like to match my FRR decals...cobalt I think). Looks sharp no matter what the tertiary color is. On the flip side, you can make some really hideous looks using white as the primary or secondary color. Some of them were down right hideous.
