Right now IS relies WAY too much on quirks to be usefull, I do believe that structure quirks are fine and are needed since not all mechs are created equal. But offensive quirks should be removed so we can have a weapon balance pass. Agility quirks need to be toned down or removed for a better pilot skill tree.

but how will you handel mechs like a SDR-V5 ? 2 energy hardpoints in the CT and thats it...

i do agrea with you on some part. example every mech that has a some what viable build with MG's has a 20%cd quirk for them... (and those 4mg lights with the 20% cd quirk are not even very good anny way..). it would be better to just buff mg's...

but whitout quirks the only way you would be able to make a spider V5 work without weapon quirks is by tripeling its armor and structure... and thats way worse then giving it some weapon quirks to conpeed..

Gonna have to go with "Just Give Us Some God Damn Lights."

Raptor 2017 for first IS Omnimech in MWO! It's the natural choice. High mounts, small profile, high gun-to-ton ratio, DHS, and Endo. Four variants with currently-available tech.

Really hard - are there mechs available that bring anything new to this Game?
Ok there is only a couple that could be unique
Thunder or Koshei
Daikyu or Falconer
Maybe Cerberus or Anni
But anything else

If the next 'mech is not 35 tons or under then I don't care and will not be giving out a single shekel for it.

14 'mechs in a row that are not lights.

The Crusader would be a top seller, but I have a soft spot for the SL-era designs. I also think they'd provide the greatest gameplay-value.
The Sentinel e.g. is a versatile 40 ton Mech with no less than seven canon variants which are possible in MWO (= no PGI fantasy variants are needed). And I really think it would be a joy in MWO.
The Nightstar would be one of the best choices in the assault class.
The Excalibur would be a fantastic cavalry Mech, although that is a niche few players like.
The Spector would be an IS Hankyu, but it lacks variants.

I agree. Specifically, I'd like to see some game modes that feel more like military scout, defend, and attack missions so we get some gameplay that deemphasizes the deathball dynamic. Game modes and maps where it's possible to win using tactics instead of mostly meta and mouse clicking reflex, at the very least for Community Warfare.

I disagree. IS mechs and weapons should feel inferior, but cheaper. That's the fun of playing IS: you get to be the underdog. Otherwise, like previous mechwarrior games, it turns into "just pick the mech that looks the coolest in your desired weight class." It sucks the flavor out of the game if the IS and Clans are perfectly balanced with each other. Too much balance is bad. I really like the Clan/IS balance the game has now, even with the significant clan nerfs compared to TT. Despite the clans being nerfed almost equal to IS, they still have a different feel and flavor, while IS is still fun to play.

I think PGI is on the right track with balance.

As for IS mechs, I say more 3025-3050 IS mechs and varients. My favorite timeline is the 3050 Clan invasion because of the underdog dynamic it gives IS. Later in the timeline, the game loses it's flavor for me. Things get too equally balanced and too complicated with all the weird new tech. I wish there were enough players to allow for picking specific eras to matchmake for, 3025, 3050, 3067, etc. Maybe add some incentives to play in a later era with older tech to make it attractive.

I do like your opinion and I do overall agree with how IS should feel against clans. But PGI wants this game to become an Esport contender and in order to have balance and to make things feel fun without being unfair we need to break lore and balance things in a asymmetrical way so that both IS and Clans feel different but fun.

This is easy. They need to start introducing IS mechs from Technical Readout 3055 which by the way is the technical readout the Marauder IIC and Linebacker was introduced in.

This would open up very cool IS designs like:

Light:

Battlehawk
Hitman
Venom

Medium:

Stealth
Nightsky
Grim Reaper
Wraith

Heavy:

Tempest
Penetrator
War Dog

Assault:

Gun Slinger
Cerberus
Berserker

Most of these mechs actually mount weapon that are already in the game though the TRO 3055 does start opening up the possibility of new tech which I admit is something they need to start looking into already.

Certain mechs ,like the spider you brought up, will be bad no matter how much we quirk them. Mechs that can't be fixed by quirks should be re-evaluated and have weapon placement changes, or even have more weapon hardpoints (but if we add even more hardpoints it is no longer the same mech as it was before, like the spider if we add energy to the side torso it would no longer be the SDR-V5). I do wish we could move away from quirks, but as you said there will be mechs that need offensive quirks either due to weapon placement or lack of hardpoints.
