As I see it warhorns that play on kills only exist to annoy those guys you killed. So something extra insulting is appropriate like that screaming surat. Hopefully we'll get vuvuzela or our pilot yelling insults next.

Pity that I can't stand anything on my cockpit that hinders visibility so no warhorns for me.

I've been wanting a vuvuzela for the longest time.

Maybe an old school telephone sound also.

I like the warhorn (mostly run the unseen phoenix horns), honestly it just confirms easily if I got the kill in a messy focus down brawl.

However, I really believe it should be heard inside MY cockpit, not by other pilots. I just don't imagine that:

  • You would really have a pilot strapping giant loud speakers to the side of their mech to play an "I got you" jingle
  • Being inside an atmospherically sealed cockpit with a massiver raging battle going on would permit you to even hear said jingle (sorta goes for the nature sounds on some maps too, btw) Posted Image

The Heavy Metal has speakers outside the 'Mech. Posted Image

I put one in my Locust 1V, seems appropriate.

Of course they do. They troll us with empty promises and stagnant development. Dangling your nostalgia for you to blatantly be distracted enough to give them money.

Snake oil salesman everywhere would be proud.

A Jack-O'-Lantern telling your victim he's been killed by a 3xC-LB2-X Summoner is so hilarious on so many levels. Posted Image

Not to mention the dubstep horns or the surat horns.

They just need to make the screechy warhorns less ear-piercing- else allow the stupid things to be reduced in volume independent of other SFX. Some of them are downright painful. I can't even use the horns that came with my Phoenix Hawks because the noise is just short of bleeding eardrums. They're even worse than the Jade Falcon horns.

Just... lower the bloody pitch. I get that it's meant to sound like an angry raptor, but damn. I've heard hawks and falcons screech up close, and I can honestly say even having the actual goddamn bird next to my head would be less distracting.

I just prefer a bit more adult, grim version of sci-fi. More Star Wars 1313, less "Adventures of Jar Jar Binks". Each to their own.

I'd agree with you were this more than an arena shooter.

I understand and respect that.

On the other hand real life combat vets are some of the goofiest people I know.
So I do not find any of the sillier or light hearted stuff to be "immersion breaking."

Yeah, but it's a sliding scale. We don't have to go full Unreal Tournament.

Again, each to their own. It's not just a matter of whether soldiers would conceivably paint their vehicles pink, put unicorn and hamburger decals on them and install warhorns that play the Flintstones theme song after every kill. I'm sure someone can come up with some explanation for why goofy soldiers would do that, and point to WW2 aircraft nose art or something.

The question is whether it's "cool" according to people's individual tastes. I don't find it cool at all. I find it lame and unfunny. But PGI apparently finds it quite cool. And they keep adding more and more of these goofy warhorns. My only consolation is that, fortunately, most players seem to find them quite annoying, so the stupid ones are relatively rare.

Battletech is a universe full of ridiculousness. The warhorns are no more so, in my view.

I'd certainly have one, were I a mechwarrior.

The Halloween horn is flipping amazing. They've set the bar high.

Finnally PGI have endorsed trolling. Its pretty apparent when the new war horn is a solid laugh when you kill someone. So every time you kill someone, you can laugh at their lack of skill or lack of attention or lack of something!
Thank you for finally endorse the Trolls!

russ and paul both actively trolled us on the forums during founders/ beta periods.. heck i liked the one bit paul had on soundcloud that was a comstar communications going on about something and in the middle it cuts out and says "You're still not getting your friggin madcat"

So can PGI verify that it is ok to replace warhorn files that we do not like with silent audio files please?

This is why the Heavy Metal is OP. It trolls with no vision hindering what-so-ever. Posted Image
