so, Im assuming I will be using this name in game. its kind of my standard internet handle. so i didnt really think about it when creating my account.

HOWEVER in true nerd fashion im kind wishing i had gone with a more battletech sounding name. which brings me to my question. are players going to be allowed to copy names from the canon? and if there is no plan for policing player names, should there be?

Im probably overnerding it here but are any of you really cool enough to be Kai Allard-Liao? or have one of the registered bloodnames?

Im thinking no.

edit: i spelled canon wrong

Many canon names for people, places and units are reserved in order for the canon timeline events to take place as they should. So I guess if a random background character with 2 lines of dialogue were chosen it wouldn't matter, but you won't get far trying to call yourself Katrina Steiner.

And AFAIK, it's not (yet) possible to change your name anyway, so I guess it's a moot point :P

Brenden Weaver over here, or Michael Gant, Ethan Hawk or Heinrich Schrodinger.

Well since I'm blatantly stealing my name from a movie from the 80s about a guy who's been around for four hundred years cutting the heads off of other people like me, and the develop still haven't asked me to change mine yet, so they can't be too over zealous about names here. But just once I want to get behind the wheel of an awesome, head cap someone with PPC fire, and as the lightning cackles say over the Mic, "There can be only one. I KNOW EVERYTHING, I AM EVERYTHING!" Kudos to anybody old enough to get that reference.

Highlander Reference, funny. You got a critical hit. Still, why not just call yourself Albert Einstein? I saw someone named Bruce Jenner and his favorite mech is... The Spider.

now I feel old.. wah!!

Seriously tho, I think taking the names of iconic personalities a bit unimaginative. I can understand using surnames of those same characters, and maybe even putting a removed reference to being a relative thereof your character's bio. An example being "Augur Davion, 2380th in line for leadership of FedCom. Part of the family, but nowhere near a presumed 1st name basis. Same with the clanners assuming bloodnames, by trial of course.

I've been using Icehornet for a long as I can remember now. Changes are, if you see the name Icehornet, it could very well be me. :P
