The two best Kodiak 3 builds are:
1. 2 uac10, 2 uac5
2. 2 gauss, 2 erppc
By reducing the number of available slots in each side torso by 5, the uac build is forced to either run a standard engine, use smaller ballistics such as 2uac5+2uac2, or use a combination of ballistic and energy weapons.
The gauss+ppc build would similarly require a standard engine.

Talking about Ferro and Endo? Because those are 14 total, the Kodiak only comes with Endo, and is a battlemech so you can change that.
Or do you mean the CXL Engine? Because that would be all of the engine slots, and cause death on one st loss which isn't a thing with CXL.
In any case I think removing the quirks should be the first thing that happens (and the roadmap does mention quirk changes on 12 clan mechs this month). I vote to take those quirks off the KDK3 and give them to the Jenner IIc

And then maybe some negative quirks since it will probably still be really good. Nothing major, just something little and see how that works.

Yeah, definitely, the KDK-3 should lose all of its quirks and then re-evaluate. The UAC changes will also likely take the dakka bear down a peg, so we should see where it sits with that.

You are totally right. I did not think this through. My original thought was to lock things like heatsinks or armor slots similar to the Warhawk. But you rightly pointed out that this is not possible in the Kodiak's case because it can change Endo and Ferro and can even change heatsink type.
The only thing that could be locked in to fill those 5 slots would be some random ammo which of course would be totally stupid.
Damn.

Somehow, I don't think that would be enough. But it would be a good start.
Needs pitch nerf, too. In general, this 'Mech can aim too easily and spread the damage too well. Wracking the twist means it has to do more footwork to spread damage and aim, nerfing the pitch means you can fly overhead or duck under the guns...lioe you can with every other Assault dependent on torso mounts.

If they're bringing over all of the balance changes from the PTS, besides energy draw, then they're going well beyond nerfing all of the Kodiaks. PGI has decided that UACs are the problem, not the Kodiak, so every Clan mech slinging ballistics and any IS mech running UAC5s is getting nerfed.

You guys are exactly like Trump with the, "Yea, I didn't pay my tax because I know the system too well."
WTF, really?
Besides, the problem is with the lack of recoil in ballistics. So what if you make KDK-3 the new ragdoll and feed it to other ballistic heavy mechs? You are just shifting meta usage from one mech to the other.

So if someone ever pilots an OP mech, they can't call for it to be nerfed? LOGIC!

O no, you got me wrong. You CAN totally do it. Nobody is stopping you. I'm just going to continue to call you a hypocrit. That's all.
Well if you're going to be extremely petty for no good reason, I'll be petty back. It's spelled "hypocrite".

Excuse me? That match, I was in a Marauder with a single ER PPC, two ASRM6, four SPL, and an XL360. I scored 503 damage that match, if I recall, and killed exactly one 'Mech (a Stalker). My team just melted from the onset of combat to the end. You were in an Ebon Jaguar and did 726 damage, I think it was. Don't remember your kill count. I was a breath away from murdering a Crab and a Cheeto before an Atlas blasted me, while your sorry behind was pointed my direction and running away to get to the other side of the Theta rock formation on Canyon.
I do not own any Kodiaks. I don't own a single Clan Assault.
Also, strategies have already adapted to the Kodiak as best they can. That is why poptarting is back in the competitive scene. Try to keep up.

I don't like heavy nerfs either. I don't enjoy buying mechs, finding a good build and then having to rework the mech or replace it altogether because of nerfs. PGI should do everything they can to avoid it.
That's the reason I never liked how PGI had knowingly released this mech in such an overpowered state. It's something in the neighborhood of 25% better than the next best thing (based on both anecdotal evidence and the leaderboard event they had after its release).
It seems to me that they wanted to sell an OP mech to get more people to buy it. And now many of those people will feel cheated when it gets nerfed.
This mech will be nerfed one way or another, and I'm worried that PGI will do so by nerfing uacs, gauss or PPCs, hurting other mechs and builds.

Obviously my logic is untouchable. I think removing 2 of the 1v's ballistic mounts and its energy mount would probably fix it.
