....I was only talking about the locked engine and the only clan mech that has the locked engine being the biggest issue is the Dwolf. The mechs you listed need more than the engine changed to be half way useable. Faster low tonnage mechs in medium, heavy and assault of both IS and clan all seem to be at low end of performance.

Do not buy/play pos mechs is the best quirk.

you seen some of the sizes on clan engines? Summoner 350 XL on a 70 tonne mech. It suffers from locked engine like the direwolf does, plus 5 tonnes of jj locked, shall i keep listing?

I will say that 8/8 is bad...but only if the 'Mech is bad. The Gyr loses nothing significant, and in fact comes out stronger, by throwing away its quirks to run a hybrid set. That is 8/8 working properly. There is nothing that precludes a bad Omni from having pod quirks to help it out and 8/8 quirks to make a bad stock variant suck less.

Pretty much everything else in this post is wrong, though, and has been outlined quite clearly in this thread. Just because you mirror 8/8 by locking BattleMech quirks to stock loadout does not mean it is fair. It is nowhere close to being that simple.

Besides, there are only two good Clan BattleMechs, soon to be three. Most of the Omni's are actually very potent. The ones that aren't either drew the short straw by being Lights (or fat lights), and suffer from Light problems, or they are called the Summoner.

sorry i didnt mean to Vent at you Yeonne,
im just venting in General and passionate about what i believe,
sorry if it seemed like i was targeting you, my Apologies,

naturally i dont see a problem with Set Bonuses only 8/8 Set Bonuses,
if Quirks were linked to 6/8 or even 7/8 and only affected Weapon quirks,
leaving Armor/Structure/Mobility Quirks attached to Pods still i would be ok with it,
its just the Full Sets that i have a problem with as its restricting already restricted mechs,

You need to go back and do your homework instead of spamming up boards with links and references to bad ideas that have already been talked down by players more qualified than either of us.

not sure if this is aimed at me as i havent been posting links in this discussion, i dont think,

I personally don't think that the rule of eight is going to affect me in anyway.

Sure, my mech ain't going to be that optimized, but I still get that flexibility with pods, which is the point of omnis.

Less 5% here, more 5% there ain't going to make such a significant difference? Unless at the super high tiers, those things count for that much?

Not like it's modules like seismic that confer a benefit that is way different.

In fact I like running mechs lore mode as it adds to the flavor.

No deal breaker here

I partially agree with this, as the clan small energy weaps are out of control right now. On the surface it looks like the range might be a balancing factor...that is until you consider the speed on most clan mechs. The CSL and CSPL boats are wrecking ppl left and right. This might be a way to help balance the max/min of the game.

Gauss how many tons lighter? Summoner still better than Victor by clan XL survivability and the new shoulder mounts.

I never said there were not better options to make some clan mechs better or to tweak more OPness with the engines. The JJs are an issue, but unlocking these would basically bury how many IS mechs so much further down the rabbit hole of bad performing. Also I only brought up the engines

Remember when folks said clan UAC 10s were bad too.

8 set bonuses should not help any medium performing clan mechs. They are there to not make stock omnis not a pure hinderance to their team and the schmuck who likes fun builds with the quirks.

note: I would be happy with less than 12 mechs on both sides for the sake of balance

Haven't you knuckleheads figured out they're doing it to give awesome quirks to incoming Clam heroes to incentivize people to buy the Clam heroes?

That or Paul took a snort of crack from the Good Idea fairy.

This is standard fare for PGI.

Well, doesn't that imply pretty much Clan Waves 1-3 are in play then (for the most part in the upcoming balance patch)?

Of course most of the focus is on Clan Wave 1 due to the heroes, but that also means RIP balance for the bulk of them.

I'll miss the Mist Lynx... oh wait.

There will be overbuffs, underbuffs, and a whole lot of weird BS going down... and no real balance to be had.

Why are you guys so sure that MLX will lose all their pod-quirks? What if they just add 8/8 quirks on top? Rather pointless I'll agree but then there are some people immensely enjoying their "stock" mechs... who knows?

I'd be more worried of some 8/8 that can accidentally fit an actual effective meta-build will get quirks and PGI will OP something even more...

We're leaving it to our balance overlord.

I really really really hate this 8 set quirk rule.

It's basically trying to buff a crap default design, and perhaps get people to stick to lore layouts more often and not go overboard.

I am trying to level the viper at the moment and I've luckily managed to get builds working out the box with the omnis I have but these smaller flimsy mechs really need positive quirks into the points and not a set of 8 rule nonsense.

I love the lego idea of building a mech that suits my style, not trying to confirm to someone else's idea.

Either way, this needs to either roll out to all omnimechs or go back to individual component quirks (if any), whether positive or negative.

Think of this for a moment. None of the top teir mechs on clan side (other than minor quirks on the Kodiak which will be unaffected by this change) have significant quirks and most are quirkless. This change basically does nothing to the top end stuff. Instead it hurts the mechs that need their quirks by making them terrible by either limiting their hard points further or removing the things that make them useful. The ice fridge for example, if it goes to 8/8 will either have worse hardpoint starvation then it already has or power all the quirks that let it perform marginal. There is no winning scenario for that mech in an 8/8 scheme.

When I got into this game a bit ago I missed the fact about 8/8 quirks on some Clan mechs and why it was there.
Clan Battlemechs such as the Hunchback IIc follows the same modification rules as IS Battlemechs, keep their quirks, but you're stuck with their hardpoints.
Clan Omnimechs cannot have engine / structure / armor changes, locked internal gear placement moved, but have omnipods in exchange for hardpoint swaps in return for what they give up. They also get quirks which... are lost if you do the thing you paid for in terms of modification flexibility in getting omnipods.

This has been covered in the thread already but NO ONE has successfully explained why an additional layer of penalty is being applied to the Omnimech player.

Edit - I paid the 10 bucks for the Kit Fox hero as I happen to like the mech and was looking forward to the torso mounted energy points for a decent build potential. The hero might have some really sweet quirks but what's the point to them if they're all lost the moment I swap one pod out - the right arm for ECM?

PGI really just needs to stop treating Clan mechs as if they are created equal.

The weakest of them need both quirks, and the swapping of omnipods, to reach semi-viability.

Set of 8 only makes sense for the absolute strongest of them, meaning Night Jerk, Timbergod, and Doomcrow.

I hate doing this repeatedly, but I'm going to defend 'barfs' this version of the set of 8, since it's not the base quirks, only bonus ones they added on. If it ever goes any farther than that I'll jump PGI and club them repeatedly with a shovel, but I'm holding back with this minor version of the system.

3 days to go before the big nerf,

clan usacs jam more, jam for longer, large pulse gets range nerfed, lrms longer cooldowns.

bring on the nerfs PGI. Kills the clans off completely so i can finally give up this addiction

For some reason, PGI seems to have only three throttle settings: Reverse, 1% Forward, and Maximum Afterburner, with no gradations or middle ground to be seen. It's mostly disappointing.

I reckon for omnimechs they should have a set of 8 quirks but then have different set of 8 quirks for swapping different omnipods around. So therefore you would have many different types of set of 8 quirks available on any one omnimech.
