I've been thinking about which assault I will eventually pick up.
This currently has my attention:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...0073c9ab70d5899

I'm thinking about keeping the weapons set thusly:
range: LLas
Brawl: AC 20 in Chainfire, Small Las for more snap-fire issues.

Yes I know it doesn't take full advantage of quirks - This is a first draft. Go ahead, tell me it sucks. Posted Image

no real focus and very very slow.
For the same weight you could carry all med pulse lasers, which will support the AC20s much better.

Still, Mauler does not make for a good brawler IMO.

Fair enough, but then, the Mauler tops out at about 60kph for 30 tons std... so... speed? hah.

I guess I could go with a Sleipnir, which has some pretty good maneuver quirks, but not much in the way of weapon quirks... (also, for cash money)

I strongly disagree there. The Mauler 1R with 4XASRM6 + 2LB10X together with my Atlas AS7-S are the only IS assaults I can use to go head to head with a KDK-3 in a brawl and win. It doesn't feel any squishier than the Atlas (the focus on your LT is so annoying in the Atlas..) and because it's symmetrical you can still deal reasonable damage after losing an ST. I've had better games in the Mauler the past few weeks, but that might just be luck.

Mauler very slow, not as tough as the Atlas. Put 325 engine on it, and forget about the large lasers

So more like this:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...e321ae16e86bbf1

:-\
Runs really hot, and the 325 was too heavy to add heat sinks. 315 lets me add 2 more DHS and I only lose about 2kph

I'm looking for an IS chassis that lets me put an AC20 in the right and left torso. So far, I'm only coming up with the Mauler and the Sleipnir.
King Crab can have it in the arms, but those arms are so spread out :(
The next option looks like one of the warhammer chassis, but then I'm out of the Assault class, and squeezing those in seems to be a fools errand.

I would just go for 6xLL on that variant, had a lot of fun mastering it that way... but anyway:

You can afford to downgrade to a 310 (60 kph exactly with tweak), and you can ditch some armor too. I usually match my leg armor with my front ST armor. should easily give you another DHS. I'm not sure if the mechlab factors in ghost heat for the dual AC20, but it might. You shouldn't be throwing alpha's with this build anyway.. just fire the AC20's one after the other on the enemy component of your choice, and then track it with you articulated arm lasers while your opponent frantically tries to protect the stripped component ;-)

I have all the parts laying around for this build.. I could put it together this evening and give it a test drive for you.

Edit:

This is probably more playable:

Good heat, just enough speed and enough ammo to last the match. 4MLAS may not seem like much, but it's still 20 damage and you can fire them all day.

You might get away with this too, if you want to stick to the 315:

Though I would personally prefer this for brawling, on the 1R variant:

here is an optimized version of your Cyclops build. It has the same weapons payload, but a larger engine.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...25897c21296d8f1

You have to realize that dual AC20's are not a horribly viable weapons load out. They can be A LOT of fun though.
If you are dead set on using twin AC20s, then I think you actually would be better off with a heavy, the extra speed is crucial to getting into position and getting back to cover (ghost heat can be a B!+C# with twin AC20s).

Consider the Jager A or D, WHM 6R, or Catapult K2.

If you really want to brawl in an assault why bother reinventing the wheel? Grab an Atlas S or DDC, toss in an AC20 and SRM6s with Artemis and go to town.

Right, that's why I asked in the quick question/answer subforum if putting them on chainfire avoids the ghost heat issue.

I'll look, but I kind of want them in the CT and I want some back up weapons. All of which generally means I need an assault.
Also, I've already got my CTF, and I want to own a set in each of the other weight classes before I start doubling up my heavies.
Also, PUGLandia has 40% of players running heavies. I don't want to be that guy.

Why?
lessee... um..

They (dual AC20's) can be A LOT of fun though.

oh, right, THAT.
