Dragon Slayer sits in the back of the mech bay. If I can save anyone from spending hard-fought $/C/MC on Vics-- please stay away! In fact, RUN away!!

The Victor either needs rescaled down or given massive structure/armour quirks.Massive massive torsos and so easy to kill for an assault.
Power creep has made it obsolete.
It used to be a great mech, fast tanky and I never poptarted.
It definitely needs some attention.

If you are going to use a Victor, also consider a slow std engine build it's ammo starved and hops but has a little bit more durability.
It's a sad sad day when std engines on victors are kind of viable at QP level

Yeah I never pop tarted with mine, was all about the brawl, and using the JJ's to jump over mechs to get back shots, or spread damage

If you want Assault punch and speed go Battlemaster or Kodiak.
I have the Pretty Baby Awesome with a XL400 in her. When she had better L arge Laser quirks she was rather fun, but PGI just cant leave well enough alone when the make a mech viable and inevitably nerf it, as they did with the Pretty Baby. The Awesome 9M can fit a XL385 in her, so her top speed once speed tweaked is 83.8, its hard points and quirks are .. meh... but still fun. I have it built as a laser support mech. 2 Large Lasers, 2 Large Pulse Lasers. 19 total DHS, 448 total armor.
Enjoi
I haven't set foot in my Victors in more than 2 Years, and I do own the Victor DS Hero.

gets you a 81KPH assault-armored hit-and-run machine that has low alpha but high DPS. If you decide to experiment with something like that at least you aren't dropping MC on something you may not end up liking.
PS: Not saying that is a good build or anything, but it's easy to modify in lots of ways. (Not saying the Victor is a good mech either, just addressing your OP)

Yes, exactly what i wanted. OFC the JJs i can do with out and one less ton of ammo. The extra tonnage i can slap in another LPL. Im not much a JJ fan, i prefer to keep moving fast paced. I know some will disagree
This is what i had intended:
385XL
1 LBX10 + 3 tons of ammo
2 LPLs
2 DHS
1 BAP
The 1.49 Heat Management is adequate for my needs.

But why bother with an assault for that? Serious question. I mean you could do that in one of jump capable Marauders, or even a Cataphract D and be just as tough, and just as fast, if not faster.
By the way I had 3 Horrid matches in my vics tonight (one witnessed by Cathy) and three awesome matches. So maybe they are turning a corner for me, but still I can't help but think other, lighter mechs can do their "mobile assault" role way better (even if they are not technically assaults).

Also, ive commited a sin, i bought the Victor Mastery Pack
Configured my VTR-DS to the specs above, entered Frozen City/Assault. Initial started off fairly well until two lights decided to pay a visit to our base. I turned around along with some others. I got shot at from across but that deter me from checking out out base. Did a bit of a dance with a Spider and Jenner, and a Kit Fox and I chased them off and soon dispatched. By now it was 6-3 so i headed back to where the action was. Managed to get 2 kills making my way to the top. Sure enough the battle was won. I think ima have fun with this.

You could also lrm boat out the basic skills for it. Most mechs don't reach their full potential until you've played them long enough to elite them and tried several builds to find the few that work for you. I find myself rarely mastering mechs any more unless I really like the mech or combination of mech and build. I do try and get elite at least on all my mechs.
