I have about 45-90 minutes a day, maybe 3 days a week to play a video game. As such MWO is the only game I play. I have no need to add another program or overlay just to play the game that I'm currently playing without that additional program. So there's my reason for not using Steam.
As to the OP, if the Steam numbers are accurate, and Steam is where the majority of players are at as asserted above, then please explain the 30K or so players listed on the leader boards. I agree that numbers have dropped (since phase 3), but the steam numbers don't reflect the reality of the game's population to any reasonable standard.
many reasons, first many people stick with the way they started playing a game. That means many did not switch to steam, numbers would look entirely different if MWO would have been a steam only game form the beginning.
second steam numbers reflect the average and peak palyers, that means when 1000 guys play in the morning, 3000 others in the evening and another 2000 at midday that it has a 3k peak, and averagely 2k players.. While totally in sum you cna have 6000 differns people in the game.
steam does reflect a fraction of the game, but it does however give a good indicator of how the overall popluation develops. and this is rather stable for the last 6 month.
But if everoyne would swithc to steam it would massively help the game becaue this gets attention as MWO surely has enough players to end up in the top 100 gamers and this attracts new palyers quite a lot.
Also stema is a nice socialising platform and seeing if buddies are online even if they don't play the game you currently play.
