[Tier5 Kerensky]

So there's a fair amount of rain in here and it occurred to me when once again I see people standing in doorway because the rain is momentarely stronger and they don't want to go out. And yet they can't stand anywhere close to the door.

And that is a pretty common phenomenon regardless of place or situation, if you google "why do people stand in doorways". It doesn't even need a crowd, all it takes is a person and a doorway.

Kinda puts things into perspective. How could people know what's about in a video game when they are so lost to surroundings in real life, a thing they've been practising daily for decades?

When I get blocked by 1, 2 people needlessly blocking a doorway I need to use, I usually tell them in passing "Yeah, standing in the doorway, blocking it for anyone else, is really smart !" .

I love to look at their faces while I walk away .

the more mechs with all their weapons facing the enemy completely unobstructed, the faster that enemy dies. so when a mech hogs a vantage point or a ramp and blocks the rest of his team from taking up positions next to you, dont feel butthurt when your team doesn't help you and calls you a noob when you die.

Oh I didn't mean bunch of mechs getting clogged up together in the game, I meant a more general sense of what's happening around in the fight.

Situational awareness is not something potatoes have.

There's plenty of reason why it is lacking... but the first "free" bit of awareness is usually through Seismic...

You are too much optimistic.
Seismic comes after a while.
I think the first step out of potatoness is when they start to look at radar and its doritos.
I'm pretty sure true potatos never look at radar when fight starts and they recognize an enemy on screen.
When a guy starts to think "hey.... radar is useful....I should always have an eye into it"..then yes....it's when a potato starts to see the light.

If only "R" to target was like a natural habit... but it still doesn't happen regularly.

I dunno, I hardly use seismic, and still maintain better situational awareness than most potatoes.

well this went right over my head

on another note me and my friends used to hunt snakes when we where kids (no big we where on top of the big drain pipes)
we had this place called the systems and we would ride our bikes close to the point prep our BB guns
then it was ready go
the idea was to appear at the top with no warning and start shooting
had to get head shots other wise you could not get a confirmed kill

Just go see how people operate in crowds, say supermarket aisles or busy downtown sidewalks.

A good % of people are just completely oblivious of their surroundings. They'll stop suddenly, just stand there right in the middle while they could be on the side, park their shopping cart sideways as a perfect roadblock. Most people would understand that they're probably blocking someone coming from behind them. But these people don't even think to look and check -- they hear nothing, see nothing, just stand there looking serenely at that shopping list.

One possible explanation is that they're just being a-holes and don't care. But I don't think this is the case, their brain simply isn't wired to process this situational information.

Some of these people play video games.

Same here
Always wonder why people love to pick the tightest space in supermarkets to suddenly stop and wonder where they are and what they actually want or something

Also love clinging to the shopping cart like someone might steal the stuff inside that still has to be paid for

Or having 3 entrances and everyone squeezes through the middle one, ignoring the other 2 for no apparent reason

On the otherhand I have started playing battlefield again... and have had to change R to Q in mwo... as I'm always looking to spot targets in both games... muscle memory stronger from BF days lol.

I blame our cuddly society. A friend of mine has the suggestion to remove all "idiot" warnings so the herd gets slimmed naturally, I have to say it's a pretty good idea. If someone has a hard time remembering basic rules the rest of us have no issue following, maybe they need a reminder that's a bit more stern than someone verbally pointing out their flaw?

In order to learn the lesson some people need to be hit with a door/wreck their car/lose fingers to the running lawnmower. I'm not advising violence, just stating it takes "a bit more" for some people to absorb knowledge. Some kids are fine being told no, others have to take the fall themselves.

i've actually seen people stop at the top of an up escalator to decide where to go.

i've actually seen people stop at the top of a ramp in canyon and rage about why the potatoes behind won't come up to support him.

i don't think those people realize that the only way the guys at the back are going to go anywhere is if they step over their still warm corpses.

on a side note, i just had a game today where a teammate in a timberwolf on grim plexus walked past an enemy night gyr at point blank range, stood still, zoomed and tried to snipe at an arctic cheetah 700m away with his uac5.

not sure if potato vision is a side effect of low situational awareness or just pure blindness in general though.

That happens in Helsinki too huh? Thought it only happened in Canada.

I figure the shopping carts in the supermarket are just like road traffic. You don't just stop in the middle of the road and stare off into space.

It's why I hate shopping.
