Supposed that Thor or Odin from SC2 was a 'Mech, how it would impact the game? To be fair, something like that was built but not necessarily exactly the same. e.g. the Thor alone has 4 250mm cannons on it's back and can be upgraded to 330mm, so it would be essentially 4 AC20s, and still have 4 more particle-beam cannons on it's right arm, LRMs on it's side. And mind you, the Odin is quite bigger.

Each AC20 of IS weighs 14 tons, that is 56 tons alone, and 4 PPCs are 28 tons too, that is 84 tons alone for the weapons without armor, engine and heatsinks, ammo, and LRMs to boot. So it might be a lot smaller.

So essentially it's a monstrous mech that has enough pod space for 4 AC10s, 2 PPCs, and 2 LRM5s, and still be that badass. Say it moves at 48 kph?

Would you play it? How would it impact the game?

The arm weapons aren't beams, they're ballistics of some sort.

EDIT: Okay, the SC wiki says particle beams, but the in-game special effects make it look like a damn ballistic cannon. Must be some really weird particle beams...

I also think you're underestimating the missiles. They'd be at least dual LRM10 in terms of damage output.

In general though, Battletech mech and equipment weights don't really work well at all when compared to other IP's. Most other IP's have lighter guns and heavier platforms, or so it seems. Also, the caliber sizes for ACs (x-mm) are also really far off in BT.

The SC2 Thor is probably over 100 tons if we compare it to the Siege Tank (I'm assuming a minimum of 70 tons, which is probably lowballing it), and the Odin is much bigger still.

Yes and no. Yamato Cannon operates by projecting a nuclear explosion into a coherent beam, maybe that is just a smaller version? Anyways it's a particle cannon, PPC is the closest we can get.

There's only 4 tubes. Maybe it's SRM4s, but considering their LRM-eque use, i just thought it would be LRM5s, unless there's LRM4s.

Yeah, probably Thor is 125 tons, and Odin is 200.

I'd still play it though.

The Yamato has visual effects and sound effects that make it look, sound, and feel like an actual energy weapon. The sound and muzzle flash of the Thor's Hammers make them look like conventional ballistics.

Cheap special effects on Blizzard's part.

I was going for overall lethality, not the exact number of missile tubes. How do we how the damage of each Thor Javelin missile compares to Battletech weaponry?

I think that the Odin is realistically much heavier than the Thor, by at least 100 tons (need a reference point though, I wish I know how heavy a Siege Tank was or something).

Nah, they stand about 1.5x the height of an Atlas and move around 32 KPH. Thanks to the ability to pinpoint target, the Omega would always be focused down first.

It's a novel concept and might have worked as an asset to base a formation of C3i mechs on for defense, but it has no place in MWO unless we start doing PvE.

http://starcraft.wik...iki/Thor#System

Quote

The thor is equipped with different types of heavy weapons,[6] and has enough artillery to take down an entire enemy army by itself.[5] It is armed with four "Thor's Hammer" particle accelerators (two are fired from each arm). Originally, four 250mm strike cannons resided on its back,[6] but these have since been replaced by Punisher[4] cannons. These fire 250mm anti-aircraft shells fitted with advanced electronics to minimize wasted shots. Their depleted uranium cores allow them to punch through the plating of heavily armored aerial targets, causing serious damage. Each shell is individually chambered by a basic auto-loading mechanism that simplifies maintenance and repairs. The cannons' rate of fire is capped to avoid malfunctions and to extend the service life of the ordnance. Bypassing the limit is not recommended, as the cannons may melt or explode.[4]

For aerial opponents, the thor is equipped with Javelin missile launchers.[6] These are located on both sides of the steelglass canopy, and fire four small, IFF fragmentation warheads that can rip through multiple, lightly armored aerial targets on a single salvo. Due to the missiles’ small size, the thor can carry a large payload, ensuring it will be fully prepared to deal with groups of flying bogeys even in drawn-out engagements.[4]

The thor can be optionally outfitted with 330mm barrage cannons.[2]

Well, the punisher cannons would still be AC20s -- but the missiles are literally small, meant as anti light-aerial.

Calling something like that "Odin" is a ******* disgrace.

Odin is the god of wisdom, a tall skinny man with one eye and dark clothes. Not a good fit for big ugly trashcans like that.

"Thor" makes more sense.

Would I play them. Maybe, I wouldn't like them being in the game though.

Grundy, Aquaman, A.M.A.Z.O. , Vigilante, and (ofc) Batman were all amazing in DCAU. Honestly, DCAU is just wonderful in general. Can we have some of that back instead of the "Everyone dies and feels bad!" we've been getting from DC movies?

I brought this up dozens of times in various places after seeing Dawn of Justice - The DCAU has done everything they're trying to do in the movies, only a thousand times better, and while being constrained by a PG rating. They did Vigilante Heroes vs. Heroic Heroes better, they did Superman going rogue better (And that hasn't even happened yet, but the setup is so bad you can just tell it's going to be trash), they did Bat's vs. Superpowered heroes better, they made it more beleivable that every hero matters instead of just Superman, the Flash, and Wonder Woman... the list goes on.

They would have done so much better by ripping the hell out of the DCAU, or at least watching it once to see how they made the Justice League work back in the 00s, even if they didn't directly use it.

Then again, I think the movies would have been better off if they had gone full blown Unlimited on it and focused more on the C-Listers. A Vigilante/Shining Knight, Green Lantern (Stewart)/Hawk Girl, or Huntress/Question movie would have been so much more interesting then anything they could pump out for Bat/Sups. EDIT - Or a Booster Gold movie with this guy.

But we're getting dangerously off track, aren't we.

Oh, and Assault on Arkham is a billion times better than Suicide Squad, from what I'm told. So... even the modern animated stuff is wiping the floor with the cinema universe.
