But, that is the actual problem with these packs! Given a Newbie wants to try the game without having to grind that much in the beginning and therefore chooses the most inexpensive pack (read: the light pack). Then he has a huuuuuge Panther that moves slower than most Heavies (and to an extend Assaults, too) with barely no weapons and a Myst Lynx, which is, well, a Mist Lynx. It's undesired for reasons, several reasons. So, to make these Mechs somehow competetive, he first has to grind a lot to get all the money for the customization, because out of the box these Mechs suck. But wait? What was the reason to dish out real money? Cutting the grind. Oh, that went well...

....well its clear you haven't actually looked at the mech specs in question. They're identical to the trial champion mechs already in your inventory except they award a c-bill bonus instead of an XP bonus. The panther has a 235XL, Endo, FF, 10DHS and dual PPCs and is 23 pts shy of max armor. The Lynx has quad SPL, two extra DHS and maxed armor. So exactly which heavies and assaults is that panther, at 108.8kmh... as slow as ? Perhaps next time before ranting and whining about the mechs selected, you actually LOOK at the specs of them first.

If you want to piss off Newbies and make them stay away from the game and warn all of their friends to NOT try MWO, that's a good plan! But if you want to appeal to new players and make the first steps in the game a fun experience when you pay for it, you definetly need Mechs that are just good (or better: amazing) out of the box. More so if they have a price tag on them that equals or exceeds that of complete AAA-titles...

Well the IS mechs chosen were the ones voted upon by the forum membership a few months ago to be worthy as champion mechs. So if you don't like the loadouts, the blame is NOT with PGI... but with the folks who submitted them and the morons who voted them into the lead.

Panther and mist lynx are probably two of the most unforgiving mechs in this game, definitely not suited for new and unexperienced players. I would rather see new players try out the raven and cheetah, or a big STD firestarter with medium lasers; the adder prime would have been a better choice for this steam pack because of the number of good builds for it. UAC20 with 3 small lasers, double PPC near-stock fit, 5 medium pulses, SRM6+Ax4 are a few good examples.

I'll repeat what I just explained...perhaps look at the loadouts FIRST... then stop and remember that they're simply (S) versions of the existing (C) mech loadouts, and that the four IS mechs were the ones voted in by the forum meta chaser members this summer as part of the latest eight new champion mechs. While stock 140 rating engine panthers are annoying due to the fact they were in the LORE as fire support mechs, not cavalry / harasser or recon mechs; the champion/special version is very much a cavalry/harasser with its 108.8 top speed (untweaked) and dual PPCs. As to the lynx... I found the champion version worked very well for myself.

The inclusion of the Zeus is a joke though. Too tall, too fat, too slow, underarmored. I wouldn't wish that mech on anyone unless they're an absolute fan of the mech. This one is fast at least but XL zeus is kind of a meme and the weaponry looks like a weak heavy's loadout in my opinion. 3 med pulses aren't too threatening and there are plenty of mechs that can carry more SRM punch.

Again, its what was voted upon by the forum members. Which is why its a 380XL for all that speed, stuffed full of DHS and running the weapons it is. There seemed to be a theme with the last champions to extract maximum MC value out of them with the biggest rated XL engines possible and if you maxed the rating you were guaranteed to get more votes. There were better designs using variants which had better quirks & weapon loadouts and were more new player friendly submitted by folks who fully grasped that they would be put into rotation as trial mechs, and those didn't get hardly any votes.

It would be useful if someplace in the pack, PGI did advertise that they're identical builds to the champion mechs available as free trials already, so new players could see if they like the free versions, build some XP (with the 30% bonus) and then buy the performance pack examples.

So what?
People are asking why panther and why mist lynx.
Champion mechs are the variants for each chassis that the community thought were best for THAT CHASSIS!.
What does the choice of CHASSIS have to do with them being similar to champion mechs?

A champion mech is the best variant among the different variants in just a single chassis. That does not mean it is going to be a good mech compared to other mechs.

The worst non-champion variant of a mech can be far better than a champion variant of another

Dude. Forum members voted on which VARIANT of a chassis should become champion.
Every chassis have (or gonna have) champion variants.
People are questioning the chassis.

Take your own advice and read and understand the discussion!

Because they're similar speed, both have jump jets, and both use only energy weapons so they're not going to run out of ammo and the heat efficiency is nearly identical (0.01 difference). The other two light mech options (jenner IIC and the spider) both are heavily dependent on ammunition. The choice of chassis, as I've already explained, has to do with the champion mechs because PGI's protocol for configuring the packs is to duplicate the (C) mechs being used for trial mechs at the time the performance packs are assembled.

Once again like all your rant posts, you're wrong. The forum members were voting for specific builds of mechs to become the champion for each chassis. They had all the variants of the chassis already released for sale for c-bills to pick from and use for their specific build loadouts. The loadouts submitted with the most votes got to be the new champion versions for their respective chassis. I based my Zeus submission not around the 6T as the winning submission was, but around the 5S primarily because it had a nicer mix of hardpoints IMHO, its the only zeus variant with engine quirks, and it has the strongest structural quirks.

I understand the discussion just fine. You clearly did not. Or rather you're not interested in having a discussion, you're only interested in complaining about a decision made by PGI. Same as you always do. Here's some more advice... bring something constructive to a thread for a change rather than your usual PGI whine fest you do constantly that has already grown tiresome to countless forum users.

You are right, i completely missed the specs, just saw the Mech-types and thought "wtf?!?". But still, i do not think that these chassis are the best choice. And, in my opinion, it would have been better if PGI did not remove the former Steam-packs and just added the new ones for some variety/more choices.

Not the Spider, unless you realy think those MGs are dangerous. The Spider 5K gets by almost entirely on it's 50% energy cooldown for it's laser.

So, some thoughts on the EBJ. If it's using the A torsos as it's only filled hard points why is it built one the Prime CT? Seems like it would have been easier to just built it onto the A.

Gives you MC, which are pricy too.

Mastery packs always 50% off standard prices. More bang for your buck.

Want MC wait for the Cyber Monday sale.

If you're trying to justify the chassis used in the Light packs... particularly the Mist Lynx... there's a special place in hell just for you.

Even the previous Arctic Cheetah is the previous Steam performance pack is going to feast on you...

There's not justification other than your willingness to troll or be trolled (the latter is going to happen in a new player's hands).

It's the "almost entirely" I was taking objection to. The mech has a very particular playstyle. Pick with LPL/ERLL and then close and finish with MGs. Both weapon systems are absolutely integral to its function.

I defended the last performance packs when people said they were outrageous

A (S) TBR and a (S) TDR were excellent, the DWF (S) and the KGC (S) are my favorite mechs for bonus cbills.

Now they take away the good packs and put up packs with really really mediocre mechs.

The Heavy pack is above mediocre but the rest of them suck.

Well PGI just put lipstick on a couple of pigs and asked you to pay to take it for dinner again.

I feel sorry for the uninformed people who pay that much for some of those mechs

Current list of champions used for trial mechs was where they were going to pick from (as was the same case last year), so 8 from the 16 available.
