Doing the math, an atlas (~100 standard tons) colliding with terra at terminal velocity (~195kph) produces an impact of 146.7 megajoules, which is the equivalent of burning one gallon of home heating oil. That is only 28% of a ton of tnt. 40.75 moment kilowatts spread out over the surface of an atlas.

To cut a pencil sized hole through through 6.4mm of steel with a focused laser, requires 25 moment kilowatts.
