Learn to shoot XL side torsos on those IS laser vomit mechs. The 3LPL/4ML builds all require an XL engine (unless you want to move at like sub-60kph) and the moment one of those side torso's get exposed, a lot of aggression goes out of that pilot due to switching to survival mode.

The Wolfhound being described as a powerful mech, hehehe.

I laughed too, then I remembered that I have 4 of them. Then I thought of the rescale, and the fact that they are less useful now than a Phoenix Hawk and yet nearly just as big. Then I stopped laughing.

On a positive note ... OP gets me thinking, and I think weapon balance is overall pretty damn good now. Definitely the best it's been during the little less than two years I've played. (Apart from MG's.)

I checked his thread on the subject. He plays EVE Online.

And now everything makes sense.

But it's so completely dependent on specific variants of specific 'Mechs. That's the problem. 'Mechs that should be good are underwhelming because they lost the lottery.

Yeah, no argument there. Though even there, I'd say it's a relatively healthy mix of 'mechs that you see these days in mid-to-high tier PUG queue. It's really just a handful of chassis that are so rare that it's startling when you see them (principally, Victor, Vindicator, IS Highlanders). The others you see every so often. I'm sure it's a far smaller subset that are comp-viable though, no personal experience there.

There was this one time, in PUGlandia... where I shot an MLX's PPC arm off.

It was awesome.

There are a lot of "solid" 'Mechs, but the "good" 'Mechs are still so obviously superior that the distinction between "bad" and "solid" is kind of irrelevant.

My 6med 2lpls Ebj just wet itself laughing.

Yup I have been hit hard by some of those IS mechs too. When I play them I have to wait 20-40% longer before anybody comes into range to cut loose on them. If I am hurt by one of the IS boats, I cut loose a uav, hit over ride and double alpha before I go down. They pay quickly, and end up with less damage.

What I see more than anything is Clan dakka, then Clan gauss rifles, then Clan ER PPCs, then Clan lasers, then Clan LRMS, then Clan SSRMs, then IS LRMS, then IS dakka, then IS lasers, and dead last, IS PPCs. Clan gauss/ER PPCs and Clan uACs are the dominant meta nowadays. You can tell the difference between IS and Clan ER PPCs because the animations are different and the Clan PPC does splash damage. I've been in several QP matches where I was the only IS mech among 23 Clan mechs.

... what if "The Meta" is actually the game we play in our heads when we're convincing ourselves what The Meta is...?

Well, it was yesterday.

It never ceases to amaze me how super slow people are to recognize the meta... especially when it's not even the correct one.

What we need are more random time traveling outside elements telling us that JJs are too powerful and need nerfing.

As a random aside... the Hoverjets values seem to correspond to the ability for a lot of the omnimech locked JJs to "just clear" some stuff (except for Executioners, which still hover over everything to this day).

I still occasionally meet people who think Highlander poptarting is scary. I'm not joking. I'm pretty sure I'm in the Twilight Zone.

It really is. This is how I feel when I boot up the Blackjack BJ-1 for the Daily x2.

No, the time of good weaponbalance is gone.
Someone published a 100t deathmachine, with high mounts, that was capable of abusing the uac10 like no mech before.
After the inevitable balance round that "normalized" many things, IS weapons have a slight edge again.

@OP:
You lost to people that have seasoned dropdecks and know how to pilot their mechs. Thats it.

Yeah, meta in Qp is definitely heavy on clans. no argument there. The maps are built to better support long range, mobile play. Which is where clans excels.
What we are discussing here is the FP meta, and I doubt you bring all guass PPC to FP invasion for anything aside from Boreal Vault.

Generally speaking, Laser Vom or dakka is the meta in FP. I see very few successful gauss PPC mechs in FP, and we all know how well LRMs typically work there.
Boreal Vault is the outlier in FP, of course.

The gauss ppc works retardedly well, but your overall damage drops by 20% for that mech unless you hit ammo. The lack of competition between like skilled players does not make the need for a fast kill as necessary. I have seen a couple of HBKIIc and Summoners with 2erppcs get spectacular results by players who do well in whatever they play.

Also the penalty in performance for clan mechs outside of their "role" and best "range" is not a harsh if the other side is stuck with only IS mechs.
