Hey,
So I was wondering, now after it's released for C-bills for a while, how is the Viper fairing? are the Medusa omnipods necessary? I almost never see them on the field, however I do like the idea of a fast, agile mech with JJs, but 8 seems like a bit overkill...
I've been thinking about getting the Medusa now that it's on sale or the Spirit Bear and then get the other 2 variants to master..

Would appreciate your thoughts!

I haven't piloted any yet (but am thinking about getting the Medusa soon, thanks to the sale), and it is true that they seem rather rare.
But I've learned to keep an eye out for the ones I do run into. The mech seems exceptionally good at hit-and-fade tactics, especially if there are few mechs on the opposing team that can chase after it. I remember a match on Mining Collective that was basically decided by a skilled Viper who was on the enemy team. The dude ate our assaults alive (which included myself). I couldn't even touch the guy.. it was really kinda terrifying.

But with that said, I've also seen plenty of times in which Vipers just get vaporized before they can do much, which in most cases is probably the pilot's fault and not the mech's.

So, TLRD: the Viper looks effective, but probably has a steep learning curve and I'm sure is a bit situational as well.

You cannot go wrong with the Spirit Bear.

Viper is the best mech I've ever played. I like light mechs... and it plays like a light mech, except it hits harder, has more armour, spreads damage better, and jumps higher. It only lacks ECM.

Medusa seems kinda pointless, since you can run this build and this build and they are just fantastic. The Medusa does the same thing, except with better quirks (which you really don't need to honest) and bigger arms that tend to fall off (and you have to run them on the arms to get the quirks). You can also stack buttloads of ER smalls if you mix in Medusa pods with the other variants, but not really worth it. I've run 9 ER smalls on the -C and it's a bit hot and the long duration is annoying. It's an awkward range between "it would be better to have small pulse" and "it would be better to have ER meds".

There is the whole 25% Acc/Decc, 20% turn and yaw rate, which the Medusa can do with the same laser count (VS the C)
It's a nice advantage for face capping

Hmmm, well I've been toying around with build in the mechlab and it seems like the Medusa really only give the advantage of boating more lasers (which Im not fond of) and having more of them on the arms, so I guess it isn't a necessity..
The Spirit Bear however have the MASC which I love (on my Scat), and while you can argue if it's good or bad I like having more mechanics to 'master'.. So Spirit Bear it is!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience with me! :)

Love my Medusa and love Vipers in general. It is the best light mech in the game (hehe) bar none. Very, very fun to play if you like a light mech play style only this "Light" mech has a bit more bite and armor and jump capability. Only thing that it is missing is ECM and I am hoping beyond hope for a variant with ECM being added at some point in the future.

Spirit Bear is also an amazing mech if you like Assaults. That mobility MASC imparts is impressive and I like to use it to help peek and boom. Come to the edge of cover, engage MASC to rush out, Fire, engage MASC to get back into cover. It works like a charm.

Can't go wrong with either one and I would recommend both.
