The (C) and (S) just have bonuses on top of the vanilla C
They are functionally identical, aside from the 30% bonus
Same Skills, same Hardpoints, same everything gameplay wise

That's all that matters.
TBR-C, TBR-C (S), TBR-C (C) are the same variants according to the skill tree, you will need something that's not a TBR-C to get around basic efficiencies such as a TBR-S (recommended for solo JJ) and some other TBR (Prime is kinda useless, since you can only fit an MG in the CT - the others provide a CT energy hardpoint usually).

my point is the store should have said i owned a c varient, then i would have not wasted my money purchasing another. why did the store say i did not own a c varient when infact i did?

The store only checks if you didn't own the variant being sold... it doesn't actually check to see if it's a matching variant for the skill tree (you actually check the skill tree instead).

This is a PGI issue on not ever really clarifying it. It only checks ownership of the variants in your mechbays - not your skill tree.
You can own a TBR-C but NOT a TBR-C (C) or vice versa for that matter... and it's not like the game is lying to you there.
ALWAYS ask before making purchases (the sale doesn't end for a bit) - I do suggest you ask support to refund the Champion mech you bought.

if for skill tree purposes a C is a C, then for store purposes a C should be a C. thats really bitterly disappointing.......one very unsatisfied customer here.

I agree, but that's PGI being PGI.
If it said you owned a special variant (like a (L)oyalty variant), then it should be included there as information before you buy it.
I own 2 of the Loyalty Centurions (CN9-AH (L)) and when going to the store, it says I own 0. That's pretty lame, but that's how PGI coded the stupid thing.

Anyway, email support and ask for a refund. Support services are one area that PGI does very well. They will take care of this. Just be polite.

That should work. For all the things the people playing MWO disagree on there is one thing they do all agree on and that is that MWO Support is downright outstanding when it comes to resolving issues like these. Enjoy whatever mech you're going to buy as a replacement!

If you can convince PGI to remove one of you CN9-AH(L)'s I'll happy take it, it's the one I'm missing from the three fates set....
