Yes the THOR (not summoner) from the Btech cartoon? What would it take to get this mech in game in all it's glory?

Cockpit mounted central? check
Missile launcher missing entirely? check
Laser mounts on the legs (at least in 1 episode) check

"You dare to refuse my Batchall!?!" warhorn? Check.

Agreed. But did any Thor/ Summoner have centered cockpit in lore, is it even canon? I guess they took some artistic liberties. And that the cartoon show actually were a kids show in-universe kinda..

That Aiden guy we just got a hero SMN for is a Mary Sue. Nicolai Malthus is like 100x times cooler than him.

They could keep the normal asymm cockpit for all I care, I just want a cool character for the SMN hero mech instead of a Mary Sue.

Always wonder this it kinda look like a Hellbringer, maybe his mech is purely costumed made from what I'm guessing.

No, no Summoner had the cockpit setup like the show did it, not entirely sure why they moved it central but it's not like it would be terribly hard for PGI to setup the mech that way to match the show

Do they still do custom geometries in this game?

Anyway... tell you what. I'll sign your petition to get a Thor with a center line head, if you also campaign for a custom geometry for the Yen-Lo-Wang. Because this...

Is ********.

Also, if I recall correctly (And admittedly I may not be), the Battletech cartoon is canon as an in-universe fiction. That may have been a fanwank I read, though.

They do refer to the cartoon events and people as canon, but the only "custom" mech of mention is Adam Steiners Axman variant. They dont really touch on the 2 Nicoali or Kristen Redmond's mechs.

As far as I know, no canon Thor has had a central-mounted cockpit. I believe it was only because the TV show needed easily identifiable 'Mech for the main villain.

The "actual" in-universe NIcolai Malthus' Thor had the typical offset cockpit as all other Thors.

I believe that PGI announced a few months ago they they're stopping the production of 'Mechs with unique geometry. I think that it was because such custom geometry was problematic when creating various additional 'Mech camos.

The cartoon "thor" was never the canon look or loadout for the mech.

The Summoner-M is essentially what Malthus ACTUALLY piloted in the canon. No leg mounted Streak 6's, no custom cockpit location, the mech was pretty much just a minor modification to the primary mech's configuration.

So basically, we already have Malthus' thor in game, thats entirely what the Summoner-M is supposed to be.

On one hand, that kind of sucks.

On the other, it makes my CPLT-C1 (F) all the more special.

...I'm such a colossal, greedy pile of ****.

Alt. Config. M

The preferred configuration of Nicolai Malthus, the M configuration is similar to the primary configuration in that it has an ER PPC as its primary weapon backed up by an LB 10-X Autocannon. Where it deviates is that for close combat the M configuration of the Summoner has a Streak SRM-6 and an ER Small Laser as secondary weapons.

Speaking of Sarna...

The animated series as such is not considered Canon for the BattleTech universe. Instead, the show canonically exists in-universe as a work of fiction: It has been referred to in-universe as a "popular but poorly reviewed holovid series" by Tharkad Broadcast Company, said to be loosely based on the exploits of the "real" 1st Somerset Strikers;[1][2][3] it was even known among Clan sibkos on the Clan Homeworlds by the 3070s through Solaris broadcasts.[4] The overall storyline and characters have thus been canonized at least in broad strokes.

I remembered a thing properly! Whee!

In my opinion, PGI completely dropped the ball in regards to the Battletech cartoon. The number of MWO players who remember that cartoon is probably absurdly high relative to the number of people who recognise some of the obscure lore references in this game.

It's just one of those many no-brainers that would have been extremely popular with the players, yet PGI hasn't touched it because reasons. Other examples include lore-based cockpit items, hiring George Ledoux as a voice actor, etc.

The Bushwacker is the first and only reference to the Battletech cartoon, as far as I know. And it comes in the shape of a $20 camo pattern without custom geometry.

The Summoner M (L) is a direct reference to it though.... as it is the canon variant used by Malthus in universe.

Ah, I guess. It's just so unsatisfying to get the retconned variant instead of the one we know from the show. There's zero nostalgia piloting the M-variant, because it bears zero similarities with my childhood memories.

It would be like playing a Lord of the Rings game where Legolas has brown hair. While the movies showed Legolas with blonde hair, the books made no mention of his hair colour, so he could very well have brown hair, or even be a ginger. But how many Legolas fans would be happy to play a Legolas character with a completely different hair colour than the one they remember from the movies? Not many, I would wager.
