You mean like that time they upped the team count to 12?

...or the time Clan tech was brought in?

...or when CW first started?

Nah, we knew all three of those were going to happen, and they were good ideas executed badly.
12 is a company of mechs. Battletech uses companies. Good. Game meta favors everyone to clump into a death ball. Game modes don't punish this. Bad.
The game was set in 3049, Clans invade near then. Obvious things happen. Only issue is the devs didn't include any decent balancing system beforehand. Instead, they try to make them "Balanced, but not"
CW is the entire reason I bothered being a founder, and the entire reason why this game is supposed to exist. They dragged their feet and spooted out a terrible product because their community realised that carrot at the end of the stick was phoney.

With this, it's just bad news from the get-go.

Expected pages and pages of kvetching. Was not disappointed. Everybody needs to get their collective panties untwisted and relax. It's a brand new 'mech. Alex has done some of, if not THE, best BT/MW art ever. He DAMN WELL deserves the opportunity to get a design of his own canonized and the Roughneck is a mighty fine machine to be chosen. If it were too good folks would piss and moan "P2W! PGI is greedy! Wallet closed! Blah blah blah" But since it's not instant meta people are saying it blows. There is just no pleasing some people.

I've seen four camps of people. People who are fine with it, people who hate it for being homebrew, people who hate it for being a 65 tonner, and people who are fine with it, but hate the lore for the hero mech's pilot.

in order for this franchise to survive, new lifeblood has to be squeezed into it and if that means new mechs, it means new mechs

That's what modern updated lore is for. There always have been new mechs.
3050 is long gone. The lore is at 3150 now.

3050 may be long gone, but we'll be ****** if we ever get a video game set in anything after the goddamn Jihad that isn't Mechassault. I think the only proper Mechwarrior title to get to the end of the Succession Wars was MW4: Mercs.

Uziel, Argus and a bunch of other mechs were created for MW 4, so this seems to be okay. Not necessary, considering all the still missing mechs, but okay.

Even as a 15 year old, microsofts' audacity at overwriting things made me LIVID, especially when there were hundreds of mechs to choose from, and plenty of designs that would have fit far better in a Fedcom Civil War setting.

At least the era that they set the game in was actively being written. It was the newest lore, so adding things to the setting meant that it could just be a new design. When TRO 3067 came out, it was fine. More than the new mechs, it was the Hardpoints system they used that irritated me, especially since it often meant that canon configurations of 'mechs couldn't be used anymore.

PGI are using an old, established point in the lore. There are no changes to be made, but they've made them. This is what irritates me so much. Yet again, so many options for things to be added, and instead, they say "Naw, we'll just make our own".

We stopped buying mechpacks not because we don't like the mechs, but because we want something better to play those mechs in.

That's because single player is badwrongfun and programming AI is haaaaard, not because of a setting issue. PGI chose this timeline so that tech was limited and there would be less to balance, though the original plan of 3015 would have been better for that. Even with the current limited tech, there's still lots of TRO 3050 and nearly all of TRO 3055 left that would still work with this game before needing to add technology.

The Jihad would have made a fantastic setting for a Mechwarrior game. The Dark Age seems to be really well received in spite of the clickytech debacle of the 2000s.

This is just shark-jumping, plain and simple.

Yeah, because what kind of loser would want to play single player? Right guys? Right? Eheh... Ehehe..... *Throws out the most highly requested mechpack*

The Jihad or the Dark Age just seem so interesting, but nobody's really touched on them yet.

Im not going to ***** about it 'cause Im actually tempted to buy it... Do kill me in game if you find me after reading this comment (And do tell its for this comment lol!)

But I must agree that I would've loved to see something like the Uziel or the Axe/hatchetman. And maybe a good reason to facehug someone and punch it do death? (Fat chance I know but hey. One can only dream!)

Or on the clanside... Just give me the Cougar and I'll buy everything from it.

All of yall yelling about lore are stoopid. The Dig Lord was was an upgrade of the Dig King that came out in 3057. It was militarized by militias. The roughneck is militarized version the Dig Lord. They just renamed it and gave it better equipment which means they made new variants not new mechs. Yall don't yell when they invent variants, so don't yell now.
