this is not how the gaming industry works.
90% of the time, the "game footage" shown at conventions/events are scripted stand-alones that don't reflect actual gameplay. it's kinda like a demo version on rails created by a dedicated showcase team meant to hype audiences for that specific moment. which is why i'm reserving judgement on this new development.
it's the gaming industry's version of advertising's pitch teams.
From what I'd heard...Russ was piloting the shadowhawk, but no, the Raven would've been an AI. Its not hard to script that event:
1) Players leaves mech hanger, moves a certain distance.
2) Raven attack commences, turns and engages when fired upon.
3) Combat AI dictates the Raven's responses in battle.
4) Once Raven is downed the game begins the RTB call.
5) When player gets near hanger, the dropships begin.
Having the human player follow a similar 'script' is not impossible. In fact if you watch the live stream version and the released 'teaser' the shadow hawk moves differently and the raven dies differently. It is from the best that I can tell, an ingame 'situation' that occurs and a player is part of. Would be great if they released it to all of us in that state, as I would kill to just even try that out, but I'm sure it could be broken if not stuck to the defined movement paths and objectives (i.e. run away from the base).
