That was one of my biggest takeaways from MechCon. It really is starting to feel like PGI cares about the IP of Battletech more than just milking their own product for all they can.

People have pointed out that putting manpower into creating a standalone game is really not efficient for them considering their current pricing model. (1 mech for the cost of some standalone games) And thats right. But it's something that Battletech is missing (a modern MW game)

A standalone game is what is going to bring new people into Battletech. The original games are what brought many of the current fans into the universe. And honestly, Battletech deserves it.

And long may it continue.

It's been easy to be cynical with MWO as there hasn't really been anything to compare it to. In a time where it's been consoles and first person shooters uber alles (and that's a cultural thing), MWO has managed to shoehorn the IP into contemporary gaming habits and make it still relevant.

I'm a strategy/space sim snob, always have been. For the first part of this century there really hasn't been that much going on and I've thought most console shooters and players of, are just dumb. Boring.

Sim players like the games they play because of the physics they can play with. In MWO, the only weapons that travel at the speed of light are lasers.* It's a social shooter that I can respect. It's a shooter for sim guys, and we're a tough crowd to please.

Most importantly, MWO has sustained a community in a time were we would be considered irrelevant. The credit PGI deserve for that cannot be understated.

* ps, I know about machine guns, they're kinda the exception that proves the rule!

I'm not mad or salty, just disappointed. It's like everything we wanted in MWO that PGI won't give us (PVE, running a merc unit with logistics, etc) has been pushed off into another game. What new announcements for the future of MWO was there? Assault game mode (previously announced), FW changes (previously announced), IK (previously announced), skill tree revamp (previously announced)...The only thing that was new was a mech and a 1v1 map that is behind a paywall. Half of what was "re-announced" was supposed to be in game already.

Well considering they are using UE4 to make this game, I think that they could have whipped something like this demo up in a very short time. I'm not trying to imply anything in particular. Good or bad. But considering the engine, I wouldn't be surprised if it was totally possible for a small, PGI sized team, to make a great game in the timeframe given.

i wouldn't be surprised if it was a stinker either lol.

i've come to realize that the quality of showcase reels/demos have little effect on the actual quality of the game when it releases.

and by that, i'm by no means saying that good showcase = bad game. just that it has no bearing.

I'm glad my invested dollars made mw5 possible.

The only thing I didn't get out of my wishlist from MechCon was the Mad Cat MK II.

I got Unreal Engine 4
I got PVE standalone MW game to be sold as a complete product and to have DLC updates.

This Whale just opened his big wallet again!

I don't agree with Imperius often...

But I'm agreeing with Imperius on this one.

So for months people have been begging for single plaer..now they are pissed that PGI is working on a single player Mchwarrior game in a better engine? One that may allow them to eventually port MWO over and tie the two torgether?

Thats salty forumites for you. Nothing wrong with voicing opinion but people get on the internet and splurge salty hate. Im surprised by all of the announcements personally and cant wait for the new things ☺

My ownly issue is, I don't mind things taking more time to be developed. But don't screw up things that work.

That last bit has been bugging me for the whole year.

So...Apparently PGI has been shoving an inferior product down our throats, and begging for money, because they've been busy spending all that time and money creating a whole new game. Who here honestly believes MWO will continue to exist, or will ever be "upgraded" from where it stands now, once MW5 is released?

Who else feels like they've invested hundreds or even thousands of dollars now, under false pretenses? I know I feel like I've been bent over the counter, and f*cked up the *ss right now.

Business-wise it was clever.

They can produce a MW5 for less than it would usually cost, since most assets are already there.
They can charge full price, which in return can be used to transfer MWO to Unreal 4 and wipe it clean to sell it as MWO2 with MW5 graphics.
People will buy it. Then they will bring out the 3050 clan invasion DLC, then the Jihad DLC milking you guys further (because why not, we love it) and MWO2 will have a clean new start and old people will come back and everything is on track.

That is, if they succeed to make a good game with MW5. If they don't all goes to nirvana. Time will tell.

So no, I'm not furious at all. I think it's good, since its a progression no matter what. This game is way past its expected lifetime anyway.

Not bitter or salty, just apathetic to anything PGI claims they will do. Too often in MWO we got told they where going to do this or make this or advance this.

So if and when the final MW5 product comes out and its worth a look at time I might buy it. Like most single player games you play it a couple times then move on.

At least its still going toward another Mechwarrior game now. So Mechwarrior fans should be very happy it turned out this way... Its a lot better than the attempted and failed alternative.

What is disappointing and will never be forgotten is that in order for it to turn out this way, PGI had to be turned down by transverse first.

I remember thinking when transverse was announced "Nooo, what are you thinking, how can you abandon mechwwarioir, Its what got you here, and more importantly dont you know you NEED Mechwarrior more than it needs you. How can you even think of abondaning it let alone doing it."

Its like dating woman that has been nothing but kind perfect and giving to you in every way, she is expecting you to ask her to marry her, then in front of everyone you pronounce your love for some Filipino ****** in the corner no one knew about and ask her to marry you instead. After she stomps on your balls and walks away smug, you turn back and ask the girl you have been with do you still want to get married.

Thats kind of what it feels like. But meh We'll take it.

I'm not furious. I'm bored. If PGI wants to spend my money to alleviate that condition with an immersive CW experience, that would be cool. They appear to have decided not to. Oh well. Perhaps they will do so with MW5? Who knows. Until it drops, I expect I will still play MWO as it is the only MW game in town...and I expect to still be pretty bored with it.

PGI is doing what any normal entrepreneur would do and I laud them for it. MWO (contrary to what all the haters and whiners would have us believe) is clearly doing so well that the company can look onwards and work on giving us more of what we like. I am extremely hyped by what has been shown and communicated.

The hate and whine in your post suggests you will not even try to accept a different stance. But let's compare MW5 to a new car being developed. Does that mean that the current model is no longer serviceable? Of course not. At some point support will phase out. But we are no where near that point for MWO.

So chillax, breathe, enjoy the mechstomping we have (and will continue to have) and join us in looking forward to glorious unreal engine mechwarrior PVE. Possibly even MWO 2.0 in the far future.

Things are looking good!

That might not be true for everyone Posted Image

LOL! I have played Matches with, myself (bad) and 10 other bads, and that "guy" who told all of us we were all "bads", after his death no less, only to go on to Win said Match. So as long is there are at least 10 other "bads" on your Team, and that "expert whiner", chances are still good you might even Win one. Posted Image LOL!

P.S. It will be great FUN to read the MW5 Forums, when that happens, about how bad the AI is though and how those ported over MWO experts just can't win certain missions. I can't friggin wait... LOL Posted Image

So it is the OP's position that it is inapproriate for a company to use its profits to develop a new product?

I wonder where the profits from MW5 will go...

Hey Ted, you missed Wishful Thinker Patient Zero Posted Image

On topic, if MWO would not be in a state of Minimally Viable Product ™, had the working four pillars and promised CW features, they could spent my money for blackjack & hookers, brag on Instagram about it, and I still would be buying Mechpacks. But as things stand... NOPE.

/edit: Oh, and go read the PC Gamer article about Russ' "vision" for MW5. The Deja Vu is real.

What are you? 10 years old? Put yourself in PGIs shoes dude. They are a games company, of course they are going to use profits from product A to fund next product B.

The alternative, before you bring it up yourself, is to constantly reinvest in just one game and no one in history is dumb enough to follow that business model.

I don't know about others but I played MW2 at least six times through, three times for each side. Ghost Bear's Legacy I played through at least five times because I enjoyed it so much, and MW2 Mercs I kept on playing over and over until MW3 released.
Some single player campaign's have a lot of replay value.

You can beat the entirety of Mech 2 with a single fire moth with one flamer. What enjoyment do you get out of it 5 times???? Net Mech 2 is different.
