Whatever - you haven't addressed a single point anyone else has made about the new system as I summarized above and are instead trying to sweep this dumb idea under the rug with "Well, it never was the final product anyway."

Bull. If you play a game for close to FOUR years, and then somebody complete changes a key aspect of it on you, basically negating years worth of work, claiming, "Well, they said they might change it someday" is a pretty sad excuse to justify it.

The proposed new system is bunk, nothing more. It is an obvious crash-grab grind, puts newer players at a disadvantage, negates the work of veterans, and - by removing chassis specific quirks - kills any remaining diversity in the game. I have yet to see a single redeeming feature to it,

*riddles about what this one liked about the old skill tree system oO? *snap* OH!!! HE LOVES GOLDEN STARS xD

Great that the grind-wall is off, then mostly balance concerns remain.

I predict that they will under-quirk the skill trees of most bad mechs while the good ones that don't rely on quirks will receive a buff from the unlocked min-max potential the skill tree offers.

You know what guys?

There has been sooo much speculation and discussion about balance, and many many people (myself included) have asked for a skill tree..

but it seems to me that PGI simply quit, and said, "ok, you want balance!? Here, no more quirks, no more anything, mechs are as-is, so you make your own god damn balance! We quit!" Posted Image

Seriously though.. the new skill tree will be awesome.. stop the negativity, and just let's see what happens..

Yep. Might take 70-80 years for some though.

In terms of legacy GXP received for previously earned experience has this been confirmed to be on a 1:1 ratio

This assumes that one point of the new skill tree will be equal to one point on the old one. If that is true then thats all ok, but if it turns out that somehow you need 3 times as much xp then its not.

The only thing we can ask for in MWO is Mechs, when players ask for features it always turns out for the worst with PGI. Current Skill tree is more a Mechanical Optimization tree and the new one is more in the line of Adjustments.

Its clear that some trees will be mandatory like the Operation and Survival

With 75 nods only, just the Operation section to get same cooling performance as now or slightly better is 21 nods of 75 so 54 nods left. In the Survival section will cost 10 Nods for maximum Armor and Structure bonus which the values seem quite lower than the quirks we got at the moment, this means the Summoner, Cataphract, Orion, Atlas and others will feel like paper again. Left with 44 nods, the Mobility Section is divided in 2 sub-section, upper and lower chassis. Upper chassis section is 24 Nods for maximum bonuses in torso twisting and arms aiming. Some Mechs that have no use of arms except as shields its a loss of 9 Nods right there to get maximum torso bonus. Lower chassis will cost 20 nods to get Speed Tweak at same value we currently have with half of chosen nods the player may not actually want.

No nods left, no weapon nods been yet chosen, no radar deprivation and no seismic sensors. Current Skill tree give access to all bonuses, you get the modules you want and you play different variants of the Mech chosen to spice things up. In the end the current system offers way more than what they offer.

Hey, at least we'll get machine gun improvements before the skill tree gets revamped again. That's a guaranteed fact.

I am one of those closed beta founding whales. Why am I not salty about leveling my Mechs again...? This is my message to you salty whales: if you consider your mechs to have been "Mastered" already that means you accepted the previous skill tree as a final product.
Chew on that.

Woe to those who have accepted that this upcoming skill tree revamp is a "final product"...

No you don't. This thread is self evident of that as you cast broad aspersions on most of the community. you're a disingenuous hypocrite, doing precisely what you want people to stop doing; Throwing around insults. Why is it the most emotionally invested seem to project the hardest? Or do you not understand that calling people "Whiny babies" is counterproductive to the goal you are (supposedly) trying to achieve?

How is this going to hurt PGI, now that I no longer have to get ability on three mechs in order to master the one model of a mech that i want which means I no longer have buy mech bays for mechs I don't want how is this going to effect PGIs bottom line
in fack now that I no longer need 2/3s of the mechs I have I will have plenty of spare mech bays.
and now that I no longer need so mech mech bays or mechs I no longer have a want (or need) to buy mechs for cash IE the value of mech packs is no longer there. ( if I want a mech I can just wait for the C-bills ) ( also note the one draw to this game is that it is not pay to win ) (also not most of my friends would not play this mostly because it is not like the original game and some said it was pay to win, which I said it was not IE I am playing and paying).

long question short, I think your income is going to shrink drastically. ( not only because buying a mech with out abilities seems pointless now, even though I really like the look of the roughneck I now know it wont have anything to counter the clan weapons power ( damage, weight, range, heat ).

I'm sure the balance peeps have been neck deep in balance stuff trying to get this worked out.

In beta it was a place holder once beta was over it was in. that is what beta is for testing to see if you want to keep something.
not to bait and switch some one.

Re-specing your mech without penalty will cost MC. That's how.

I still think they should keep quirks. But use them to focus on mech's unique aspects. Maybe even hardpoint specific bonuses and whatnot that make that mech unique. Say a particular mech has a giant laser hardpoint. That giant hardpoint may be because it's supposed to do extra damage from that hardpoint or lower heat or something. Then the mechs that have specific hardware orientations or purposes can have those unique characteristics on top of the skill tree to make them do what they should. No reason to throw out something that is already in game. Especially if it fits lore or something.

Basically take quirks and make them specific hardware implementations that may be unique to that mech or it's parts/systems.

Makes sense, I think that what the mech tree is. The mech tree only makes sense as hardware. I should say tree's really. Since each mech has its own.

This leaves room for a pilot tree that effects all the mechs as well.

I swear that half of people complaining are acting like they're not even getting the experience points back.

Since you seem to not understand common sense, I'll spell it out for you.

Let's say I have spent 100,000 xp on leveling mechs. It gets refunded. Yeah! I have 100,000 xp to spend. Oh wait, with xp inflation, that 100,000 doesn't get my mechs back to where they already were, AND I have to grind even more just to get where I was.

You are really ok with that? I don't have a lot of time to play, when I do play, and I certainly don't want to waste it regrinding a mech I already mastered.

Seriously, GFY!

Except he didn't expect any such thing. He's accusing everyone of "whining" while not even reading or responding to their very valid arguments against the new system. Worse, he's living in some world where he thinks PGI has some sort of mastery of game balance and properly tests things before implementing them - thus far, there is no proof of such behavior on any large scale anywhere in MWO's recent history. Or, do I need to remind people of:
  • Hover jets
  • Energy Draw
  • Infowarfare, and the magic of "ghost range."
  • Long Toms
  • Community Warfare Phase "whatever the heck we're on now."
  • That amazing Pinpoint skill
  • The power of LBX's and autocannons
Do I have to continue? Seriously, I am damn tired of listening to people label everyone with a valid argument and a mountain of reasoning to support it as a "whiner." It's nothing but a laughable ad hominin attack that makes it painfully clear the attacker has no evidence to support his position... unless we're to pretend that "this one time" PGI is going to get it right.

I would probably be wise to also consider that he is purposely trolling us to get these responses...
