I just feel bad for new players, if there are any, as the gap now between an Elder player and a F.N.G. will be even larger once this goes live.
Your missing something vital. Right now it takes 57,250 XP to fully master your mech. They System PGI is taking about implementing would change that value to 750,000 XP. That is 13x the current XP.
So PGI is going to refund me 57,250 then I am going to have to grind 692,750 XP to re-master the mech. Now do you understand why people are freaking out???
There is also a substantial C-bill investment required in skilling out your mech under the new system. Each SP seems to cost about 50,000 C-bills each. 50,000 x 75 SP = 3,750,000 C-bills per mech. Now this seems cheaper than buying modules but when you consider you could just buy one module and use that module on any number of mechs you realize that even though they are refunding the C-bill cost of the modules, over time your going to have to invest a hell of alot more C-bills into your mechs than you would have under the current system. Lets look at an example. I have 100+ mechs and all I currently need to own is one radar deprivation module that cost me 6,000,000 C-bills. That is roughly a per mech cost of 60,000 C-bills per mech while depending on where in the tree the Radar Deprivation skills are I might have to spend a million or more C-bills on each mech just to get the same effect. Again do you now see why people are freaking out???
The reality is that unless they do a one-to-one refund that would allow a player with a currently mastered mech, to re-master that mech after the change, it is going to be like resetting that players account nearly back to zero. I for example go from about 80 mastered mechs with full module support to about 8 mastered mechs with module levels of skills and the other 68+ mechs mastered mechs I own get reset back to zero skills, zero modules.
