It's... almost as if Battletech has a rather substantial following and people hoped for MechWarrior:V for a very long time now. Hmm... that can't be right. No. They wanted MechWarrior Online, that's what they were hyped for with the very first trailer for the game. Hey, want KOTOR III? It's online too. Posted Image

Shows how unpopular MWO is.

I have no idea why we're comparing view numbers right now.

Star Citizen GameCon big vids garnered 600k in 3 months. Hows that for a comparison thats not dumb?

Ok, so even assuming everyone watched it twice, that's still 200k viewers which is 5x the number of people on the leaderboards last season.

Is Battletech still a niche game, or is it just PVP Battletech that's a niche game? ;)

Only if they also make sure to link both Mechwarrior games to Bass Pro Shops: The Strike as well, a vastly unrecognized title.

Didn't you know that they already upgraded that game?

Thats more than both CW vid and Steam launch combined(almost twice as much). I guess the Solo part interest quite a lot of people.

They however put the vid in its own Home. Piranha games. Which makes sense since the other channel is called Mechwarrior Online. But we're maybe missing an opportunity to get more people interested in the Online part. I think it should be an "extension" of MWO rather than be completely segregated. MWO should be better associated with MW5.

All I'll say is this..

MW5 being announced reached even some small, yet mainstream, media in my little backwater Croatia.. That's how huge this is..

I hope PGI invests in marketing this thing, and actually does a good job.. after 5 years, we, the fans, have earned it!

They did buy the license before announcing right...

600k views? Not impress. Take a sneezing baby panda, 220+ million views. (Kinda sounds like a PPC, now that I think about it, so this is strictly on-topic.)

Everyone who bought Mw4 is going to buy MW5; and then a few people born after the year 2000 might too; but they were hoping for Titanfall 3 and will quit soon after.

Here in germany the local gaming news sites reported about MW5 and linked the video so you get those people on it as well.

The interesting part about this is they even made "previews" based on the vid and the pcgamer interview facts, so those info came more or less from mech con. But there wasn't any news about mech con or the tournament on the news sites whatsoever.
And these news sites starve for anything they can turn into clickbait, they announce every little bit of non-information just to have something in the pipe. So if PGI had just sent out some emails to news sites around the world this... ah, it's just not worth it anymore to get upset.

Have people not realized by now that a huge number of so-called "media" sites (i.e. blogs, gaming or otherwise) just regurgitate information spit out by others, and some of those sites even do so automatically?

We(my Clan)have been getting people that are new to the game, So the advertising must be working on some level.

PGI's history with MWO is not exactly a well-kept secret.

Perhaps - but after thinking about it for the years now since I've quit MWO - MWO's history is what it is because of PGI being new on the street while also turning Mech Warrior Multiplayer into a "f2p" thing, which really left a lot to be desired from old-school MW multiplayer days. Back in the day never did I think to myself, while shooting at Mechs on servers, that I wanted to play all of that in a more grindy, time-consuming experience with less features.

In my eyes Mech Warrior multiplayer is not well suited for a f2p game-type since there is so much more people could do with a real MW5 game, especially with fan content (depending on the engine). Years ago if PGI had somehow had the ability or MS approval for a SP title with MP tacked on with a mod-friendly engine, it maybe wouldn't have had the sordid history of MWO, but I'm not a fortune teller. I also assume a lot of MW PC and X-Box Mech Assault fans just don't or didn't care about multiplayer either, which is why many friends of mine simply didn't bother with MWO, but as soon as they saw a traditionally named "Mech Warrior #" they got excited, hence a **** ton of views.

Three years ago, trailers of MWO could pull in a few hundred thousands of views (200k to 400k range). YouTubers doing MWO videos or videos of older Mechwarrior games could pull in nearly as much.

Starting from three years ago, Sidestrafe's "Sniping Bird" video (about a Raven) has pulled in nearly 691,000 views. Starting from one year ago, his King Crab video has pulled in over 234,000 views.

MWO's own launch trailer pulled over 377k views from over 3 years ago. Their beginner's tutorial from 4 years ago has over 413k views, and their Go Ballistic trailer has 353k views.

From what I have seen in YouTube, the large majority of views you see in a video tends be from its start, all the way to a few months later, then falls off like a cliff though you will still have a few randoms that view it here and then.

This year, posting an MWO video will get you less than 10% to 5% of that amount. Some of the YouTubers don't even post MWO videos anymore, like Sidestrafe who has gone on to other games. Lately he's posting vids from Titanfall 2. I would still say getting 10 to 20K videos on a YouTube game video is still respectable, even when you see the viewcounts on other games.

If social media activity is an indication, this is quite a massive fall off from the initial start, though this also shows that initially, MWO might have a much larger audience, or the potential audience for this kind of game is fairly large.
