I would wager once the team writing MW5's code is done they will team up with MWO and convert MWO after (maybe, very slim chance of before) MW5's launch to UE4 as it would allow streamlining of the look of both games and allow for easier to understand system requirements. I say this because MWO is to be effectively (but not packaged with MW5) MW5's multiplayer aspect while MW5 is pure singleplayer. However, with Escort gamemode in MWO coming soon I don't think we have seen the end of PvE content for MWO with the revealing of MW5.

Following MW5 announcement, If MWO was to be ported on UE then pretty sure Russ would have told us. I see no reason why he would have not taken that opportunity to explain why MW5 use UE and what will happen with MWO.

Because that would be forecasting too far into the future (alot to happen between now and then), and that is realistically none of our business right now (as it's so far out). Cryengine is garbage as an MP platform, it was never designed for MP excellence, it excels at very pretty SP games...unless you can raise 100 mil + to try to get it to do anything reasonable in scale for MP. UE4 is much more cost effective in so many areas for this type of game.

And besides, any engine upgrade to MWO won't/can't be announced until after re-securing the rights from Microsoft and MW5's launch in 2018.

Well its almost a given MechWarrior Online is being ported to Unreal 4 now. Once they have assets loaded into the editor and things of that nature its on the way there anyway.

They showed gameplay in Unreal 4 already which means they have gone quite a ways already.

Of course, but things will need to be on the upswing before MS lets PGI officially announce something that would take place on or past that deadline. Think more like an NDA.

This is a failure of your imagination.

Yeah maybe... so we take it as he knew we will all assume they decided to switch to UE because it's better, just that. Ok fine, let's say we all agree, then it's obvious everyone have it mind the question "ok but what with MWO then?"

Wait and see... I know. Just had hope they would say something about engines for both.

I know MWO won't move much in the next 3-4 months because of all the content already announced like skills change, we know it's done. But what if slowly they tune the code so they can more easily update to CE 5? That's not listed in current patch notes but the recoding may be there nonetheless. Or you know just say there are not willing to mess with the code more than it is now because in the next 12-18 months they will be starting to port on UE. Unless there will be a MWO2 but that would mean they start fresh with a new users base, some (I mean many) will follow, some will stay on MWO because of amount invested.

Depends on how well UE4 supports potato PC.
One of the reason they keep with CE3.5 is the newer version does support directX 9, and all dx9 only graphic cards.

I am an absolute noob so please excuse my potentially stupid example. But i do imagine it something like this. Someone learning english to tell a story. Its basic english and thus the story is good but lacks a lot of things and details. The author then decides to advance his skills but starts learning french because it sounds fancier instead of keeping learning english. Wouldnt it be easier to keep on learning english?

Its more like a builder is building a house, and its half way through but hes been using a rock instead of a hammer the whole time. Wouldn't it be easier to swap to a hammer and use that instead of using the rock hes gotten used to?
