Why? is there like a balance reason for a 16 weapon limit?
So few mech's can actually reach this, and even less with a viable build.
So why does it even exist?
I have an 18 weapon DireWolf but I cant play it...

We suspect it's a coding limitation, but no official answer has been given, AFAIK. Got noticed with Novas when the clans first dropped.

I'm pretty sure that it's because of UI space. Basically, you could theoretically get to the point where you take up the entire right side of the screen with weapons.

Maybe they could stretch the limit a little higher if they made the weapons list font get smaller at those high numbers, but otherwise there does have to be a line somewhere so that you don't break the UI.

Probably a 'lazy' UI limitation, put in place when a mech with more then 16 weapons was an absurd idea.

curious, what will happen if you bring more than 16? Can't you drop or can't you shoot/asign weapon groups or what?

What practical use is a 'mech with more than 16 weapons?

not sure its that, MW3 had a hard limit of 16 weapons total as well, so its probably something else,

You can't drop, as far as I know. The mech is not eligible.

Probably a limit from the TT where a merc who brings a mech armed with 46 medium lasers is sandbagged.

Until some one finally hits the max of 175 alpha I'm not worrying about 16 weapons on a mech. Even the nightmares of closed beta, the Closed Beta Terror 1
and the Closed Beta Terror 2 have small alphas compared to the alpha we have now in game.

Likely due to the system is set up with one byte of data for weapon numbers, easy fix is allocate two bytes of data and it is solved. Wonder if it is a crytek thing or just some back end simple stuff.

thats probibly the size of their array. i for one dont want my member to be an std vector. </programmer humor>

to be fair dynamic memory isnt that hard to work with. i presume the limit is due to screen space more than anything.

The 16 weapon limit exists to stop you from carrying 17 or more weapons on your mech.

who would want to really, ive maxed the limit on a dire and its really not possible to fire all those weapons without overheating. i guess it works if you want to be a swiss army knife and have a tool for every job, but its better to just do a couple ranged weapons and make the rest moderate range, then use the remaining space for heat sinks.

highest alpha I've made so far just derping around is this one: ARC-5W Fus Ro Dah at 111 alpha. You'd probably insta-explode just like firing all 12 of the nova's med lasers.

You need to have a one-two punch, and it's really awkward because of those bay doors. Another would be to fire all arms, then torso missiles.

TT/BT didn't have a weapon limit other than tonnage/critslots.
