Is it just me or has the overall pilot aim gotten much better in tier 1 in PUG matches?

Yes, a lot of people still don't listen in PUG games and yes, a lot still do their own thing and yes, a lot still play foolish. Yes, you will still have some that cant aim that well (especially in tiers 3-5) but I have noticed a unusual and dramatic improvement in aim lately. At least from the lower tier groups that I play with (tiers 1 to 2). Like an unusual spike in aim abilities. Not with every single person but with enough people that it seems very unusual.

I've noticed this while piloting every weight class. I pilot every weight class and try to do so evenly. One of many lights I pilot is my locust. The advantage of the locust is that he is small and incredibly hard to hit for most people. At least, that's how it has been for years. The disadvantage is once he is hit he goes down fairly quick.

Before it would be rare getting directly hit by PPC weapons, full alpha strikes of lasers and ballistic weapons. Now, it is a fairly regular occurrence for me. I wouldn't say this happens every time because this would be an exaggeration but it happens a significantly more amount of times over the past few months. I play a lot of games and something seem to have changed with a decent amount of players. At least enough to seem to have made a strong impact to me.

Unusual accurate aim things like being regularly hit with ballistics or PPCs multiple times at a range of about 300 - 600 meters while continuously strafing side to side (not towards enemy and backing away). Sometimes rotating in a circle, sometimes not, sometimes changing speed. Not poking from the same spot. Basically, being unpredictable.

My play style has not changed. It served me well for years now. Constantly moving and being unpredictable is still very important. However, something seems to have changed. Maybe not with everyone but it seems with enough to where it seems to be making a noticeable difference with me.

Please, I ask for replies only from those who:

1. Pilot lights a lot (especially the locust)
2. Play in tier 1
3. Play a lot of games (not just weekend warrior and a few here and there)

For those players who meet all of those things, have you to noticed anything strange regarding overall improved aim and usual kill shots from long range? I am not talking about the 1 in 100 great shot game which all of us has had, nor am I talking about something being so common you are seeing something unusual in every single game. I am talking about a spike in overall improved aim and usual kill shots from long range.

Sarcastic and non constructive replies are not welcome.

I blame it on the PPC+Gauss meta resurgence forcing people to git gud with aiming recently.

Hit reg has improved.

You're just taking damage more often now when you're hit instead of it disappearing.

Clearly a new aimbot must have been released.

And I clearly must be using it to be performing so much better this month.

Dude, there's like no other explanation for someone going from 245, 288, 280 average match score of the previous 3 months to 450 this month. It must be hacks!

I think skill level of your active playerbase will always have a slight upward trend over time until most people ditch your game. As time goes on, people get more practiced, and optimal play continually gets tested and refined.

However, I think in this case, it's a meta thing. We're just seeing more people bringing pinpoint front-loaded damage weapons and fewer people bringing lasers and dakka. I'm seeing a lot more PPC and Gauss in the last couple months.

Hell no. Not by a longshot. If anything, I remember Tier 2 being better shots this time last year. Hell, just two days ago I was in my 2xUAC-5 Marauder and won a staredown against a dakka KDK-3. I was worried when he first started shooting at me, but then he just started missing me worse than the bad guys in an 80's action move. Safest thing for me to do was sit immobile, hull-down, plinking away at his CT with my UACs...

I dunno, maybe it's cause I mostly play late-ish West Coast right now, where I used to play mostly EU and East Coast prime time when I lived in the UK, but the marksmanship and tactical decision-making has been pretty atrocious in the last few months.

The PPFLD meta gives fewer opportunities to spread damage and the velocity quirks are real, but i also see a lot of people miss all the freaking time.

So, Rickrom just told me after we lost a match that should have gone our way easy...except half the team didn't fire their weapons with any appreciable weight....that Russ said the match-maker is currently disabled. Anybody with more time than me care to check that?

Be interesting if true, and if so, when it was disabled.

If it happened at the start of this month, it would explain why my performance in the Summoner is even higher than previously (I've jumped from 523 damage/battle in October, to doing 767 damage/battle in December).
As much as I'd like to think I've somehow dramatically improved, I know something like matchmaker being disabled makes a lot more sense.

EDIT: in October I played 58 battles in my Summoner M/F, winning 36 to 21 losses (1.71 W/L, 63.16% W/R), scoring 64 kills to 27 deaths (2.37 K/D, 1.10 Kills/Battle) and 523 damage/battle.

I shelved them both when I finished mastering each mech, only started playing them again this December... where I've scored these stats in the next 37 battles: 27 wins, 10 losses (2.70 W/L, 72.97% W/R), 78 kills, 14 deaths (5.57 K/D, 2.11 Kills/Battle) and 767 damage/battle.

I just can't explain such a massive jump in performance. Is matchmaker being disabled recently responsible for this?

Has anyone else noticed similar increases in their recent performance/scores?

Say what?!!!! Matchmaker has been disabled? Why would they do that?

Also I did notice something, that was it disabled during the holidays and now back up? Because I noticed a huge difference in the holidays but now is back to sort of normal.

As a T1 Heavy Player. While I still think it is hard to hit Locusts and Cheeters, I find they seem to run in straight lines more Posted Image (Or maybe that is a symptom of tier mixing)

I noticed that my performance has improved as well in the last month or so. I assumed that it was because of the way PSR worked (pushing everyone into tier 1).

If they disabled matchmaker, that would explain it.

Just you. T1 is full of potatoes who barely know how to walk. Being able to aim is still very much optional.

Well, this month I've been getting 600-800 damage games in my Adder Prime, so that's a yes to sudden boosts in being not terrible. I thought it was just me finally finding a mech I wasn't crap in. Would be interesting to figure out it was actually because of MM wonkiness. But my bets are on it being a baseless rumor. 'crosses fingers, hoping I'm right, and thus I got gud'
