Folks,
I formally demand we stop calling useless players "nubbsticles" (obviously a play on words with 'popsicles') , popsicles are actually useful, tasty, refreshing treats during hot weather. (based on an OLA commercial).
Seems more like he was making a misspelled reference to the obstructive nature of noobs being an inconvenient obstacle having to be overcome over the course of the game, hence "noobs" and "obstacles" = 'nubbstacles', where 'nubbsicles' denotes noob popsicle.

It is sometimes hard for experienced players of a game to recall what the challenges a different set of controls and physics brings. As with most things practice makes perfect. I avoid playing FP do spare the experienced players from my poor gameplay. This game is definitely one that needs an investment in time to play well.
Don't know yet whether I will stick with this game. There appears to be a huge skill gap that separates players both from a gameplay and "how to understand your loadout" perspective. What is easy for experienced players is hard for new players. We will learn to compete if we can stick through the grind against vastly superior builds and pilots.
A few moments from my first two days playing MWO
- Having a light mech up my HBK IICs *** (There is a chance I am your potato) blasting his 10 lasers moving faster than I can rotate. That clan L200 in that mech is too slow. Can't afford to upgrade to a L235 though, not enough credits. No fun. It's funny the same things that new players complained about in RoboCraft I am complaining about here. That spectator time was pretty long that game.
- Why is it I can't join a new game after dying within the first 30 seconds? Is it punishment for being a new player and having only one mech bay?
- Getting snipped by someone who probably has a zoom module. How the hell could they see me from that far away let alone snipe my arm? Only 4000 more GXP before I can get one . Lets see, earning GXP in the low teens per match how many games will I need to play? 250 WTF. All this module and skill **** puts new players at a distinct disadvantage.
- Getting gang **** by the entire enemy team because habit had me pushing forward to go forward which actually sent me left out of cover. Thanks RoboCraft.
- Capping Alpha in my Artic Cheetah and rendezvousing with my team to find only one other player left alive with a good part of the enemy team still around. We won thanks to capping points
- Sticking with a group of assault and heavies giving them ECM coverage in my Cheetah. Down to the last three on their side and the last four on our side. The rest of my team was in such sorry shape that the last enemy was able to rush us and we barely killed him for the victory. See I learned to play support

it's obvious what 627 was trying to get at, and you're twisting his words and point to create some "i'm being undermined because i'm old" narrative.
you may suffer from a total of zero adverse effects from getting older, but you're a special snowflake (congratulations)! fact is, aging in general DOES affect reaction times and mental processing, and not in a good way.
in fact, many forum members would probably be familiar with a poster called "mrmadguy". that guy used his advanced age as an excuse to demand that pgi make changes to push him up the leaderboards all day, every day.

I lost 9 matches in a row yesterday, mostly scoring 900+ damage and 3/4 kills each time on a sinking ship. There's absolutely nothing I can do. People just deciding splitting off and treasure hunting hoping to reap great success. I can see why the Marauder challenge has no real rewards now, it's just people bashing their heads against a wall.

Some are good players, some are bad players, some are new players. But I see a trend that anyone who is not getting 200 damage or whatever is called potato and is the sole reason that the leet playerz lost. I just don't like this attitude I guess. It is kinda toxic to see this and someday we'll wonder whya no one wants to play with us anymore.
you do not get to misrepresent someone, then get a free pass by twisting your own words when you get called out on it.

50+....to their abilities...
Ok, first off,TOS....read it ***hole
Your prejudice is not acceptable.
Second, I've been playing video games since Pong in the 70's and played everything I could get my hands on afterwards from arcade, console to PC for longer than you may have 'graced' this planet. Been on a number of leader boards from the 80's up to and including MWO so as for my 'advanced' age causing me issue with skill...please.... So. what is it about my age that lessens my abilities..I'm all ears.
Hope you grow up.
if you bothered to read what 627 has been saying throughout the thread, you would realize that he's adamantly against the calling of anyone else "potato". what he's saying is that there are players of all skill levels in-game, and we shouldn't be pointing fingers at anyone based on what mech they choose to bring, their in-game decisions and ability or inability to react or aim as well as the next guy.
it's actually a pretty nice and admirable thing to want.
you know what's not nice and admirable though? you mentioning the CoC when you're the one calling 627 an "***hole".
one set of rules for 627 and another set of rules for you eh?

Add any,ANY group, in place of the 50+ in the below sentence taken from his post. Replace 50+ with women, Christians, transgender, white....and tell me that it's ok...really? But 50+ is...
"I know there are people here who are 50+ and still play this game to their abilities."
You'll not hear from me again. I do sincerely apologize for the name calling. I wish you all the best.

of course it's ok!
there are multiple studies and statistics which show a trend that the older someone gets, the slower their reaction times get. it's not an opinion. it's an overwhelming statistical tendency.

Ralatar, You are old. I am old. Most people here are old. Have you ever played a game against a 12 year old?
I can't reach those reflexes anymore. My friends who are at my age or older can't do that anymore. Everyone knows that. Why do you think we play this game instead of CoD or BF? Because you don't need to be *that* fast here anymore.
And still, my point was not to insult anyone, it was quite the opposite I tried to say.

My grandmother was a schoolteacher, so my mom beat English into my thick skull early. Interestingly, however, Google's search prediction makes a great spell checker. =)

If we're just looking for an alternative way to say "inexperienced," then "newb" works fine.
If we're looking for some oddly specific terminology to describe people who are too experienced to be newbies, but not skilled enough to be considered experienced, then I'm not sure how much use that concept will get.
If we're looking for a way to tell people that they're underskilled, to which they cannot take offense, then I submit that you're destined to lose to that windmill.
If your purpose was to demonstrate that Ralatar is oversensitive about his age, cannot differentiate between real discrimination or prejudice and the concept that time makes mockeries of us all - and does not know what "sic" means - well, you always get knee-jerk trolls whenever you tell people something they don't want to hear. I've had ample cause to know... =)
On the other hand, "I'm a potato" is an important part of geek culture - if you're confused as to the origin of the phrase, well.
Sir and/or madam - you need to play some Portal.

Clearly to him the potatos are the ones asking him why he has run off on his own and doesn't refer to people who run off and do their own thing.
This idea that we all know deep down the "right way to play" and know when our behaviour is ruining other people's fun doesn't make sense to me. There are too many different views on what is right or wrong in the game for anyone to be so certain of their own that they start insulting others. I could list pages and pages of conflicting advice I've been given.
This is a team game and so if there are players who are intentionally ruining the game for others then that is an example of nonparticipation based on the CofC and should be reported. But if you read through the posts in this thread and many other threads you'll find people using "potato" for people who can't learn fast enough for their liking. I think the vast majority of people referred to as "potatoes" are not doing anything intentionally. They just make mistakes more often then other players. I think we need to take all the energy we spend on trying to make fun of them and use it for something constructive like forming groups and teams of like-minded players so we simply bypass playing with people who ruin our fun. It seems like the only solution where the outcome is 100% in our control (as opposed to trying to get a random player to play the way we think is right).
Well theres numerous reasons for that.. ususally nothing good comes of sitting around vegetating with a bunch of potatos in a place i know to be nothing but good farmland for the enemy.. So yeah you guys just sit here and wait to die. I'm gonna go over there where i know the enemy is a kill a few of them or die trying.. Sounds better to me than hiding and waiting to get farmed..
oh BTW ran off on my own.. on crimson escort a few times.. to find fattie walking to the tunnel while the rest of the team is off at the saddle cept one or 2 maybe.. after telling my team hes at the tunnel.. killed his 1, 2, or zero escorts and started pounding fattie down. Of course nobody listens cause they are potatos.. you can guess what happened. and you know what.. I'll do it again happily

"A potato is a player who camps in one spot, or is relatively immobile, shows low reaction time and/or situational awareness, and is essentially waiting to be farmed by other, more skilled, players."
The origin of the term is because potatoes literally resemble potatoes in farmland.
You could call them any planted vegetable if it makes you feel better, though some vegetable names have bad connotations of their own. Most specifically things like eggplant, or kiwi...
