I admit that so far I have only a limted sample size of 7 escort matches. 5 as defender and 2 as attacker. And so far the defend the Atlas side has won every time. It's not even close.

Either the attackers never get shots on the atlas or get slaughtered by the defenders if they do rush in to shoot the Atlas. Which seems to have the armor equivalent of the Battlestar Galactica.

I have to assume that sometimes the defenders kill the VIP. Right ?

I literally and metaphorically stopped him. Because of the improve physics, after my team eliminated the other team, the VIP was like 50 m from victory. So I just stood infront of him. Made him go around 2 more builds, which was enough time for our team to obliterate him.

Now a more interesting question... say the Atlas can fight back like we assumed...

O_O DON DON DON!!!!

Sure. We lost one game because the enemy legged the Atlas at 25% of the way.
One game we won cause we killed the Atlas without any losses.

(talking about pugs only here)
Simply wait 2-3 weeks. As soon as people learn the ways and the tactics of this mode, the winrate will turn in favor of the hunting team.

The first thing the hunting team have to learn is to let this VIP alone if any enemies are in FoV... I mean, one round I killed 3 MAD IICs (of 5... lol) in my LCT-PB with an other LCT cause they didnt bother to attack us. They focused on the VIP while we stripped their rear armor without any need of moving. I mean... 1 alpha and the LCT is gone... but no... THE. V.I.P. MUST. DIE. NOW!

Its simple matter of time to find best chokepoints where the escorting team is ether obliberated if following the atlas or atlas will get killed without much counterfire.

The best example is River city:
There is a point, where the VIP has to move over the bridge from highground to a highgrund. The Hunting team has only to wait on the other side. The escortteam has to move over the flat terain and attack those high defending ground to ensure the VIP can move comletely coverless over the bridge...

Yes in both solo and group queue. Getting a fix on it in a timely manner and burning through a few defenders gives you the opportunity you need.

It's impossible to lose on the attacking side if you have at least 5-6 non ******* in your team who will help you focus fire it down

Atlas has pretty low health really so if any coordinated attempt against it is made, it will go down

I saw it dropping 2 times yesterday. The first was because all my team ran to the drop zone or behind a hill or whatever on alpine and the VIP was alone with me against 8 enemies. yeah, worked well...

The other one was a hard fight and my team died first so they could kill the atlas without a problem.

As long as the Atlas isn't twisting, shooting back and walks right into the enemy line, i do not care about this game mode. It is a fun novelty, but lacks everything else.

I put at least 600 damage into the back of the atlas and didn't manage to get him.

I've seen him go down a few times though.

Solo'd the VIP on Frozen City tonight, I'm in a AS7 S(L) and focused the CT down pretty quick.

I've lost doing both the defending and the attacking. I have also won both.

I think our small sample size isn't relevant to anything that is happening.

On a side note:

Tonight the VIP decided to go saddle on Crimson (I'd killed it in the tunnel 3 matches prior so I realized it picks different routes) The entirety of the enemy team was surrounding the saddle, we (entire assault lance and heavy lance) pushed ahead of the VIP by a ways and won with almost no damage on the VIP. It was glorious and we were all saying it was OVER when we saw the VIP heading into the enemy.

What was your endgame damage total? And how much do you estimate you put into the atlas?

LOL? ... Go play Crimson escort. Dumbatlas goes towards the tunnel then "suddenly" changes his mind and goes towards the central pass. By the time he gets there attackers already captured all ECM towers on their side, and there is nothing you can do to prevent the Very Important M0r0n from charging head on into 12 mechs firing line and being melted in 3 seconds. Of course you can charge head on into the firing line of 12 mechs yourself, but we know all too well how that works in PUGs.

I've said it many times before, I'll say it again. Now matter how much armor your mech has, when 12 mechs focus it, it dies in 3 seconds. Dumb gamemode is dumb.

Suffered only one loss so far on defence. The map was Alpine and my team paniced when the VIP took AC2 fire from across the map. Most charged into the open to get at the offending mech and were cut down by a gaggle of MAD IICs. :) In short order all we had left to defend the VIP with were turrets, a Kodiak, a Raven (IIRC) and my Ice Ferret.

Still the three of us took down at least that many because they were mostly ignoring us and shooting at the Atlas. :)

How to win...(attacker)

Step one: recon with your team's lights to locate the VIP.

Step two: deathball your team and move towards the VIP

Step three: kill all the enemy team

Step four: Kill VIP

First escort game I did was attacking on Forest Colony. Didn't know wtf I was doing at all. First game in a MAD-IIC too so I was occupied with admiring that as well as wandering around trying to work out where the objective was.

Anyway.. Did over 1000 damage to the twatlass and we killed him almost underneath his drop ship. :P

Teams have to go whole hog on one strategy in this mode to stop the VIP, otherwise they just kind of flounder and die.

You either-

A ) Kill the entire enemy team like a normal match and/or shoot the atlas only if it is completely alone and there is no other team fights happening on the rest of the map

or

B ) Have everyone shoot the atlas in the exact same component, with the only ones that matter being head, front CT, back CT, or a leg, while completely ignoring the enemy team.

Option B usually won't work unless the enemy team are phenomenally bad shots or they just straight up abandon the atlas to an enemy gun line.

People will usually commit to neither and will lose because they are dumb. You'll get people shooting atlas arms, shooting all different components on the atlas, shooting the atlas while the entire enemy team forms a firing line and cores them out, etc.

The atlas is basically an unintentional MVP assault player on the merit of it absorbing enormous amounts of damage while his team pukes damage on the enemy team unopposed.

I can only share a observation:
If the attacker caps the point in c5 the atlas moves ridge. If the defender recaps or defends this point the atlas moves tunnel, this works only if the atlas hasn't moved over a certain point close to the sky railway (en route to the tunnel)
This still needs proof and testing.
It might be possible the the route the atlas takes is influenced by the ownership of cappoints.

The problem is on a map like Crimson attackers have plenty of time to capture all cap points on "their" side of the map. Probably can do that on most maps since VIP is a *cough* really fast and nimble mech who is taking a *cough* most efficient route to its destination.

I've won both on both sides and its all about being aggressive. The attacking team stands passively in front of the atlas and lets the other team walk up to them then they lose. If the attacking team pushes up and gets heavies and assaults behind the defending team then they win. Those quad gauss poke bears have to move and work out that alpha at 300m in back of MAD-IIC is going get the kill quicker. Escort is just NASCAR with a bot leading the way.
