Hey Guy's
Ive been out of PC gaming for a while but when I saw that A new mechwarrior game was coming out I just had to get back into it as i love all things mech ! so in order to start I was going to need a rig for not to much cash the following is what ive assembled so far:

AMD FX 4100 cpu
Gigabyte ga-m6mt-s2 MOBO
4 gb ddr3
ASUS gts 450 GPU

Im planing to get another 4gb stick and run it on 64bit win7 not sure what drive set up to go with though yet either a single sata or raid up a couple of sata drive' s or possibly an SSD drive not sure what these are like for gaming in comparison to standard sata drives. any comment's or advice would be welcome as its been a while since i built a new pc. will ad posts here as i continue the build !

SSD if you can afford it, hands down! The speed difference (versus a traditional hard drive) is amazing.

My system specs, with the CPU / MB / RAM recently upgraded for MW:O, are listed in my sig. I am also considering a GTX 670, but will need to see how the game plays on my current card before I can convince myself to drop $400 on that (which is almost as much as the CPU+MB+RAM I just got!).

hmm will have to look at an ssd I think. I ve just read the review for the gts 450 and it not bad but the 460 is only £35 more and quite a bit better ! think ive bought the wrong card oh well i will have to see how it goes.

I would suggest upgrading the GPU to GTX 460 / Radeon 6870 / 6850 or equivalent from the newer series if you plan on gaming. GTS 450 is a bit meh on it's gaming capabilities.

Of course if you already have bought the card or are on a tight budget then never mind. These cost somewhat more than the GTS 450.

Edit, don't mind this. You answered this already yourself while I was typing.

An SSD is quite definitely the way to go if you are looking for speed, although if you have the ability to I would return the other GPU and get a better graphics card, a geforce gtx 560 / radeon HD 6870 or better.

Also, make sure to get the same sku( brand, speed, and model) of RAM as you have.

SSD is the way to go and you can probably pick up any of the gtx 5 series for a good price.

Another thing you might want to consider is that you get less hard drive space with the SSD for the same price as a regular hard drive.

Yeah I caught the same upgrade fever, as my box struggles already with the likes of Starcraft II/Diablo 3 and other new games. I ordered the following yesterday, should be a screamer over my current Core 2 Duo/4gb RAM setup:

Asus Maximus V Gene motherboard
i7 Sandybridge 2600 3.4 (will swap out for IvyBridge a little later, this proc is borrowed)
16Gb GSkill DDR3
OCZ Vertex 4 128Gb SSD (external server provides my storage at 6Tb formatted RAID5)

nVidia GTX 275 inbound from the original system with the PSU and optical drives. Liquid cooling will have to go away for a bit until I can get some more parts, current CPU block wont fit LGA 1155...

Can't go into Mechbattle half cocked now can we

no problem, and your right im on a budget with this build hence the mediocor nature of the card ! however its the asus overclocked version so it should be a bit better than a standard 450

Hm interesting maplin are doing a deal online only for an asus gtx 550 ti for the same money i paid instore for the 450

http://www.maplin.co...ics-card-528738

I think i will take it back and see if I can blag a 550 instead according to the spec its very similar to the 450 but its clocked at about 100mhz more than the 450 got to be worth a try.
also I think im going to change the ram ive bought for 8gb matched pair of ddr3 1600mhz as the memory ive got now is only 1333mhz and my board will support the faster speed.

oh man ive really screwed this up so far i think, also ive decided to stick with a standard sata drive for now (got one lying around spare at the moment) an ssd would be nice but its a budget buster !

replace the 4100 with a phenom II 965, they cost the same, both fit in the same socket, and the 4100 has newer technologies but the 965 has better single thread performance which is more important for the majority of games

as far as your gpu goes, you may want to look into spending a little extra for something more powerful if you're not willing to overclock, although it should be able to run this game just fine.

but seriously, go with the 965 over the 4100.

Shouldn't he upgrade the GPU before considering a SSD. Sure, faster load times are nice but I'd much rather have better framerates and better graphic settings.

But as far as I've understood the GPU is from his old system? Maybe he should just wait for Beta and wait how it works, maybe it will run with smoothly with this card?

Honestly, in this thread are just builds for maximum detail, but we have no idea how well this game scales. Well, the Beta-users might have, but...yeah, they can't share their experience.

id suggest upgrading to the gtx460 at the very least, i had a 450 in my old case and it ran games, just extremely slowly and it had problems generating excess heat

alas the 450 has fought its final battle this very morn. It has been incarserated in its own box left to rot on a maplin shelf
but it was a noble sacrifice as it enabled me to liberate the mighty 550ti to grace my machine with !
