BTW, you were asking earlier how I liked the LCT-1M with 2x MPL + 2x SRM2.

As I said then, it is sh*t. 'Mech was much better back when it still had 25% duration quirks for MedLas; then you could get good DPS up close and had some flexibility with range.

So I swapped it to 2x SPL with 1x SRM4 and 1x SRM2. That is now properly dangerous up-close. I would recommend playing it, it's a hoot. I just lament the loss of the aforementioned flexibility.

You haven't piloted a locust until you've piloted the AC5 locust

LCT-1E is great, probably the best, it just gets...old...after awhile. Boating six Mediums or six Small Pulse is too simple. Much more thrilling are the missile variants; the phenomenal DPS out of both combined with their enhanced agility over the laser versions is a rush.

My favorite light mech is the LCT-3S with 4xSRM2s

Quirks + SRM2 CD module + Fast Fire skill = 47% off missile CD.

SRM2s CD becomes ~1 second.

17 damage per second is a whole lot when you're a small mech that nobody notices.

Yes. I also boost it by tossing on a Small Laser. Becomes ~ 18.2 DPS at that point. And yes, I have run out of ammo and been able to meaningfully contribute with just the small laser.

Only problem with the SRM locust is you are in greater danger of being light food. I'm not saying you can't win just that you got to work alot harder for it since aiming a projectile weapon that needs leading at super fast speeds against small targets is a chore. Not to mention your probaly burn 1/2 - 3/4 of your very limited ammo supply for the fight.

I dunno, I find SRMs to be a superior option for dismantling enemy Lights compared to lasers. The Locust is so fast and agile that it can stick to a target like glue and the front-loaded nature of SRM damage makes it impossible to spread. The bigger issue is, as you say, using up ammo that would probably be more useful if planted into the backside of an Assault.
