Well, the Banshee is fairly common, and actually has plenty of pre-3049 variants:
BNC-3E (2475) - x1 Small Laser, x1 PPC, x1 AC-5
BNC-3M (2579) - x2 Medium Lasers, x2 PPCs
BNC-3MC (3037) - x1 Small Laser, x1 PPC, x1 AC-10
BNC-3Q (2915) - x1 AC-20
BNC-3S (3026) - x2 Small Lasers, x4 Medium Lasers, x2 PPCs, x1 SRM-6, x1 AC-10
BNC-5S (3048) - x2 Small Lasers, x4 Medium Lasers, x2 ER-PPCs, x1 SRM-6, x1 Gauss Rifle

Given that other common and less-commonly-used-in-the-video-games 'Mechs like the Trebuchet, Cicada, Cataphract, and Spider are being included, the Banshee is as good a candidate as any.

If we're talking about an Assault 'Mech, I would suggest (and encourage):

• Cyclops
  
• Victor
  
• Zeus

Just for the "old glories" lineup.
I don't think the Banshee to be a viable candidate but then again Piranha could surprise us again !

I would rather see the Javlin, Hatamoto-Chi, Salamander, and the Flashman implemented over that walking brick wall banshee.

I think we will see many others mentioned before the Banshee in the assault class. Zeus, Highlander, and the Mauler, but one mech that has been mentioned being the Victor, piloted by active characters of 3049, being Victor Stiener Davion.

Correct me if I'm wrong also but wasn't the Banshee and Highlander 3050's versions ComGuard mechs with Comstar Tech, that was not available to the rest of the Inner Sphere, and the Flashman or Anhiliator were both Wolf Dragoon's Mechs using hybrid Clan tech, so I will guess those as being out.
