This would Buff underperformers at the expense of making their hard points fixed. Quite frankly the fact that omnimech are only good ideas when you need to do in field repairs and changes (something that does not exist) means that it is effectively a worse option to take instead of a IIC. And none of the options that would be buffed would really be the top performers [since hard point locking would be a thing, preventing min max of options.)

There is a reason a lot of clan mechs are mothballed, and this would help bring some diversity to the field I think. Then again I actually advocate for IS XL to not die on ST lose but then again I am a crazy person.

The wish for a safer IS XL Engine isnt crazy, and theres a solution for it: Light Fusion Engines!

Clan battlemechs should not be better performing than Clan omnimechs. I know I know "muh lore" but omnimechs are supposed to be the cutting edge state of the art front line Clan mechs and Clan IICs should be second line reserve mechs pressed into action when omnimechs are in short supply. PGI should look at at least be able to remove fixed heat sinks/probes/jump jets on omnimechs while keeping locked engines and upgrades. That, plus pods and quirks should bring most omnimechs on par with the IICs/Battlemechs.

Then buff inner sphere equipment/weapons to keep them in line with omnimechs. As is most Clan Battlemechs are simply the best mechs in the game and that shouldn't be the case.

i was under the impretion that the big advantage in omni's was the ease in maintanance and repair under battle conditions, just swap out damage parts, and not rebuild the entire mech...
it make sense to send the stuff that u can repair and maintain in to harms way first instead of the stuff thats a PITA to repair if it gets shot up...

why would a clan battle mech using the same weapons and engines be anny less good in performance then a clan omni? it would just be a load more work to maintain as a frontline mech...

This is exactly right. Since MWO has no sense of time or place, that whole distinction is wasted. OmniMechs will never have any advantage unless placed into a persistent campaign setting.

Radical concept. Make all omnis battlemechs. Lock their hardpoints and give some inflation to the mechs that need it (like the summoner).

The flavour of the clan mechs comes from their iconic appearances. not being able to swap hard points or put lasers in the legs.

Don't believe me? Mechwarrior 2 and 3 treated omnis and battlemechs the same (there were basically no rules), and nobody cried about that. Mechwarrior 4 only had a few select omni hardpoints but otherwise treated battlemechs and omnimechs the same, and it didn't seem to bother anyone.
