Hmmmm, I wonder how this thread is going. I should try and read it to catch up.

'sees a ton of people spouting numbers, specific builds, and their stats'

My ability to contribute here is null, but I might as well point out that if you're sticking a Gauss rifle in an Atlas, you're asking to die. Just don't.

Lots of problems here. The Atlas can only equip up to a 360 (400 Boars Head), and let's be honest, it has to be a std(XL400) motor and the Kodiak can run an XL. This gives the Kodiak more(same) speed, more firepower, better cooling, more space, more(same) agility, and higher mounts.

There is no problem, this is not the Atlas you are thinking of. Move Along. Posted Image

No decent players run an XL400 in an Atlas, do they? That's worse than LRMs....

Boar's Head. It's not horrible; there are worse things you could do. Usually end up with both STs crit before one pops, so you only miss out on being able to run as a stick for 10-15 seconds.

I'm no decent pilot, let me tell you. This was me trying to regroup earlier.

I have some LRM's on 1 of my 7 Atlas mechs, 4 LOLrm10z, I got 2 of the loyalty variant, figured one gets ASRM6's and the other ALRM10's.

Sometimes it works. Posted Image

This is exactly why it needs more structure and armor quirks so it can fulfill the tank roll. Save an iconic mech and give more variety to playstyles.

You also have to realize its not the lack of variety on behalf the Atlas, its also lack of variety in the MWO meta.

Look at Lights. The class overall is weak(dont listen to the people who cant aim, if ACs are so powerfully lag-shielded why arent they using them to get 5 kills/match?)

MWO is about combined firepower presented in an aggressive manner. Winning trades, pressure, position, player communication.
Current Meta is swinging back to lazervomit a bit but the overall formula is the same: Do big damage first to the most choice target while minimizing incoming damage.

Lights, Atlas, Vindicators, Spider-Vs...etc etc. are less optimal at the above than the T1 meta mechs(or the counter picks to those mechs)

Giving an Atlas 1000 more HP isnt gonna help you live but 10 more seconds if you are a bad player getting focused down in the open.

Meta has shifted for xl assault use a bit. Battlemaster and Banshees being the ones that can use it via faster pokes and up high hardpoints.

There is something to be said about faster twisting for Atlas as well i guess.

No, brah. LRMs are king here. Sometimes Streak 2s.

The Atlas can mount considerable long-range firepower, it just has to expose completely to use it. That's the real problem. People relegate it to short-range duties because it can't poke for sh*t.

Seriously.

If the B hardpoint was on the shoulder like a Bazooka and the E were on the upper arms, Atlas would be T2.

Banshee-S has the same problem with its dakka.

King crab.

Dire Whale gets away with it because fitty-tons pod space is a quirk of its own. Only 1 Hoverlander-llC variant is decent. /etc.

If the Atlas torso hard-points were where the KDK ones are and the Atlas arms were raised up like the KDK arms, it would completely transform the 'Mech.

I thought the BNC-3E dakka actually started in the shoulder and was biased higher rather than lower?

Being a lover of the Atlas, it's a pure situational mech right now.

By that I mean you NEED your teammates to help in a push or you'll die pretty fast before you can get in range for most of your weapons and chances are you're running a brawler build, which the Atlas does well and only really can do since it's weapon hardpoints are just too low mounted.

The Atlas can tank, but it's very slow and very large, so going out in the open is a guaranteed death sentence.

One thing I never understood is why in the world would anyone run an XL in a crazy slow and large mech like the Atlas, are they a sadistic masochist?

(Side note: I wish they would fix the Atlas's walking animations)

True there's no variety, but even if we did have a huge open world and game modes where lights could have a purpose, there still wouldn't be a place for a slow assault as big as a barn that can't pack enough pinpoint firepower to scare a heavy. Honestly, I think it would take a doubling of armor to put the Atlas in a decent and balanced place. Sure it would absolutely dominate everything it came face to face with, but it should, it's a ******* Atlas. It can't give damage without taking it right back, it's going to soak up hits, so it needs to be able to do that. Then there's a little more depth to the game, "****, an Atlas, focus it down at range." Sign me up for that world.
