while in the BT universe the capital fleets were too irreplacable to commit

What capital fleets? There were none amongst the Great Houses. Wolfs Dragoons had 6 in hiding at our timeframe and Comstar had a "small" fleet.

I do have a question though, do planets in the battle tech universe have planetary shields that prevent orbital strikes like the ones in Star Wars?

Nope, totally wide open to someone playing "Drop the Rock".

Those were AT-ST's that got teddy death brought upon them XD And the towcable was a nifty way to make them fall over (you COULD do the same thing to a battlemech too just saying )

Ah yes, the great Teddy Bear death commando's. Nuff said, mechs took guys in powered armor to take down by infantry. Trip a walker and it goes pop.

In a war, Starwars wins. In a combined arms scenario, Starwars. In any scenario that lets walkers use their range advantage, Starwars. If the Battlemechs get a change to mug a walker at point blank/melee range, Battletech hands down.

When it comes to infentry BT wins and i think if you just threw in infentry and mechs i till think BT wins cause it would be hard to hit elementals with the lasers at long range.
Edit: ooh and im not sure about this but BT orbital bombardments would most likely get through the SW planetary shields cause most if not all SW bombs and weapons are plasma and lasers while BT is nukes and bombs

Star Wars wins the planetary bombardment, just ask Alderaan

The Star Wars AT-AT obviously came first as so many has showed the time line for. The AT-ST (two legged version) reminds me of a 20 ton mech that came out in 3050 called the Flea. It had 2 Medium Pulse lasers, 2 small lasers and a flamer, It also ran at 97 kph. So I'd have to believe that it would literally run circles around the AT-ST and obliterate it.

Again thank you all for your views and thoughts... it's like a tug o war here on who would win between SW and BT... now if only we could have a programmer make up a sim and test with all the SW specs and all the BT specs and run the sim... see who would actually win....

I find your lack of knowledge on SW infantry and weapons disturbing XD Also the planetary shields SW had can withstand normal bombardments.

No contest, Battletech would win vs. Star Wars. Star Wars walkers could be killed by Ewoks. Ewoks are teddy bears with spears.

Lets look at some numbers, First off theirs a bit of a difference if one dose a limited fight (like say which is better and AT-AT or an Atlas) and a all out war.

B-tech can easily win many what if situations, but can not win a war.

Warships:
B-tech: as of 3067 had less than 500 warships in existence, during the star league era less than 8000 (SLDF only had about 2,500 warships in it's active fleet, with a thousand more in reserve).
Starwars: At it's height easily has tens of thousands of warships (IIRC the empire built around 25,000 ISDs alone).

I wont get to much into the space topics but I will mention most calculations and stated numbers for SW has them easily in the megaton range (or higher, though their are arguments for lower...). This is in comparison where many B-tech ships can be taken out by low kiloton level weapons. Not to mention SW also has higher real space acceleration than B-tech, to say nothing of their overwhelming FTL speed advantage. Never mind the fact that SW ships have shields and armor while B-tech just has armor...

Also note SW has easy over a million worlds compared to B-techs ~2,000 worlds and only a few of though's are industrialized enough to matter.
---------------------------------
An AT-AT supposedly has a top speed of some 60kph, and AT-ST around 90kph, the AT-ST while mocked for it's performance in ROTJ, one has to keep in mind it's the equivalent of a Humvee, it's not a MBT equivalent but a lightly armored scout unit. So their not that slow, but B-tech has mechs that can exceed 400kph...

Now on the ground B-tech will have the most success, but this is also where B-tech will have some issues on a all out war... As B-tech military's per canon are small, most house military's having less than 1,500 regiments....

Now if we say substitute the Rebel defenses at Hoth with a Davion RCT, or perhaps a Davion BA regiment at the Jedi Temple when a newly minted Darth Vader and the 501st come calling then they would do quite well. B-tech infantry would fair quite well when facing their SW counter parts (Stormtrooper armor for the most part is just a Fragmentation level, environment suit), Battle armor would mop the floor as well, though SW has some comparable units but dose not use them in large numbers. And B-tech infantry has access to some nasty anti armor weapons (I.e. Gauss Rifles that they can tow around)... Though it would be difficult to say how effective B-tech weapons would be on AT-ATs.

One oddity is SW Fighters seem to be stated as subsonic when in an atmosphere where as B-tech fighters are high supersonic with some fluff indicating hypersonic...

But I believe depending on how you look at it B-tech can easily win on the ground, space is nigh unlikely they could win out side of specific set ups.

at least in starwars people arnt delusional about ballistic weapons being better than energy weapons... they all know laserboating is better. Except for Ewoks, theyre the exception LOL.

Untrained pilot? That untrained pilot used to bull's-eye womp rats in his T-16 back home. They're not much bigger than two meters...

My guess would be that the OP just wanted to have a little fun instead of all the same old rehash threads of "when am I gonna get my Mad Cat/Unseen. How many hundreds of those have been posted so far and how many hundreds more are we gonna have to deal with before the 7th of August? LOL At least this is something a little different. And if you don't like it, you don't have to reply. Fairly simple if you ask me

Well if the Star Wars force was the Empire, it would always lose because some technician would build an opening leading to a chain reaction all the way back to the main reactors on any ship, walker, station, or base just when they were getting ready to win.

Either way Starcraft would own them both. Not because of superior tech, but because of vast numbers
"Yamato cannon online!" "Carrier has arrived!" ............................zerg has no uber flying unit
