Imagine you have the standard version of a preordered mech pack (of a mech available ingame by now), you still didn't decide if you want the hero variant for additional $15 you qualify for anyway, and then, suddenly: Hero sale!

Are there reasons to do it the one way or the other?
Would you just calculate: Assaults rather mechpack, rest rather MCs on sale?
Or are there more reasons to consider?

Generally, it's cheaper to buy a pack of 3 mechs, and the hero variant, than it would be to purchase MC and buy them that way.

Because the mastery bundles already have the 50% discount over the in-game store MC prices for all their items, if you need ALL the items then the bundles are better. The webstore dollar prices are further discounted over the in-game MC prices. If you already only plan to own the hero/champion versions because you do not like the hardpoints/quirks of the basic variants, then its better to use the 50% off hero/champ sales to just buy them then. Also if you have a lot of MC and need C-bills... the discounted locust champion is the best MC to Cbill conversion ratio going. 380 MC converts to about 1.9 million cbills if you sell the mech with all its contents. This beats the in-game store conversion of 4000 MC to 6.5 million cbills.

The best MC to Cbill conversion has always been Cicada-2A.

With this sale... the best ratio is Cicada-2A(C).

Thanks so far.
But I'm not speaking of the mastery bundles, which are only available for rather old Mechs, but the mech packs which come in standard + collector + reinforcement + hero and are available from the web store.
And then, assuming one has already spent the $20 for the standard pack anyway, one has the choice between $15 for the hero in the store or MCs for the hero on sale.
Also, I'm not speaking of items one can buy for CBs.

If you combine the 20% mc bonus from a $99.99 mc purchase with the 50% off mc price on heroes, even a 100 ton Spirit Bear hero is less than $15 dollars. Lighter heroes are a greater savings. Check out

pgi tends to give away enough mc to buy 2 or 3 heroes a year, provided you wait for the hero sale and play all the mc events.

I don't understand why anyone would buy anything right now. I mean by PGI's own admission everything is about to change with the skills tree.

Consider:
A hero sale. An incoming gutting or at least revision of the "base line" quirks, as part of the skill tree revision. Those inflated base line values being the only reason some heroes are even playable. Might PGI leave them where they are at? Sure, cuz PGI has a great history of being consistent and leaving well enough alone, right? They would never nerf mechs unexpectedly and out of the blue would they? -cough-Jester-cough-

I predict there will be much qqing incoming over this sale in particular. Because there is no way PGI will leave things like the massive ballistics cool down on the IV-4 or the Legend Killer, or even the missile cool down values on the Pretty Baby, alone. Nope, folks are going to buy these mechs and then go nuts when the one or two things that make them even remotely viable are taken away or reduced.

Or maybe I'm wrong and PGI will just leave well enough alone.

There are still almost unquirked Mechs, like the Cyclops.

To be honest, I'm not really going to spend additional money right now. But there is the steam sale and there were MCs in there, so I'm considering how to use them.

If you already have MC, getting 50% off Heroes is a good idea imo.
