I was thinking about this as I woke up today and figured I'd put the question out to our fellow Forum Members and see how they feel about this.

I LOVE the new Cataphract design. I have no idea why, but I want to sleep with it like a teddie bear everynight and pilot it everyday.

Never thought I'd like that 'Mech but it's amazing. But part of why I like it so much is the variant I want to run. Here it is as follows:

Endo Steel Chassis
280 Standard Fusion
12 Tons Standard Armor
LB10-X AC (RT)
-2 Tons Cluster Ammo (LT)
-2 Tons Slug Ammo (LT)
CASE (LT)
ER-PPC (RA)
Medium Laser (RA)
Medium Laser (RT)
Medium Laser (LT)
Medium Laser (LA)
4 Jump Jets (1 per Leg, 1 LT/RT)

So the big question:
Can I build this in the MechLab, based on our current understanding of how it works?

That's what I want. It's nothing earth shattering (I feel) but I'm worried because I don't think I see a variant in Sarna.net that would support the Hardpoints for this and still allow jump jets (based on my understanding of the Hardpoint system and that Jump Jets can't be added to varients that don't have them already?)

Thoughts, further information I've missed or critiques? Any and all discussion is welcome! Thanks!

The variant you're describing is our Cataphract-3L with normal engine and JJs. If our variant makes it into the game, you'll get everything except for the JJs. :D

Specs:
Power Plant: VOX 280 XL
Cruising Speed: 43.2 km/h
Maximum Speed: 64.8 km/h
Jump Jets: None
Armor: Riese-400
Armament:
1 Mydron Excel LB 10-X AC
1 Ceres Arms Warrior ER PPC
4 Ceres Arms Model W Medium Pulse Lasers
* MASC System
Communications System: Datacom 60
Targeting & Tracking System: Dynatec Special

Also, nice to know we're getting export into such a wealthy country. Tell your Davie friends not to destroy any facility again, as it would cripple our output and you'll have to purchase that poor excuse of a mech 3D from them. :D

To fit in the PPC on the jumping variant the worse you'd have to do is ditch the ultra-5 then use one of your medium laser slots.

Well it's unclear which variant of the Cataphract will be the primary one- The art shows the 1X, but the text prose from the announcement is the 3D. A notable difference is that the 3D drops the PPC for an UAC/5, but the 1X doesn't have jets and it is not clear if you will be able to put jets in it or not.

Based on the 3D you can certainly come close, ther is certainly an energy hardpoint in the RA you could replace with an ER PPC(if you have sufficient slots, but the base 3X has a medium laser and an UAC/5 so there should be). You can certainly come close but having enough slots in all the right spots, and enough total tonnage, you may not be able to get exactly that.

I love House Davion, but sometimes our obsession with autocannons is just retarded. The ERPPC that the UAC5 replaces is a pure derp idea. Hopefully players will be allowed to drop that beast for that ERPPC in a variant. I personnally don't like Capellans, but I must hand it to them, they finally built something that is actually useful.

With the exception of Hellbringer and Nova Cat, I have never been a fan of much of anything over 55 tons. This design is quickly making my short list, and I may even actually pilot a heavy this time around if I can get a comfortable build with Cataphract. It is so sexy. I am really happy they've decided to take a 'mech like this (and arguably Cicada) from relative obscurity, and turn it into something I am really excited about.

It would be nice if the devs would show up with some record sheets, showing only the hardpoints and no mounted weaponry. Then we could see what is possible and no longer only guess.

And the Cataphract is just great. :D

Davion's obsession is the main reason i love Davion mechs.

And yes, the new Cataphract design is a-m-a-z-i-n-g. So far its the only other mech ive really really really really liked besides the Hunchback.

It is definitely badass. It would look pretty ****** cool in a forest camo scheme IMO. :D

They took a fugly old design that people laughed at and actually made it look totally badass. Somebody give that artist a raise!

Ok! I just looked at that one, and it is pretty close. I had just really hoped to avoid the XL engine because of its inherint weakness (if the increased vulnerability to Engine Shut downs through Side Torso cores makes it in game), and the fact that it's freakin' expensive! Also, I think I'd rather have Jump Jets rather than MASC but you gotta take what you can get right?

Something tells me I could live with this variant though! HA!

Also, I'm going to be playing as a Mercenarie, I just don't like the portrait for it, so I've opted for the Steiner Fist. How else do you think I'm getting my hands on that Cataphract? I'm working that house vendor connection!

Yea. It's nice to see that nobody else has heard either way if we're able to mount Jump Jets to a chassis based on if the VARIENT or the overall 'Mech chassis has supported the Jets at some point. I'd like to say that if the chassis has them on one varient they can all have it but, that could be broken

I second this motion! Would be lovely to see this kind of information so a site like http://www.wowhead.com but for MechWarrior: Online could come up. Allow us a virtualized place to look at all 'Mechs and their varients to play with Hardpoints/Weapons/Ammo/Armor/Module load outs to see if we could get what we wanted out of a chassis.

I hate the ugly cockpit, but for whatever reason that I cannot put my finger on, I love it too. It displays a lot of functionallity with all its laser lenses and its huge armor plates, mabe that's why its beautiful.

The cockpit is also lower in the body than some other mechs (Atlas, i'm looking at you) so when you crest a hill, your head is not the first thing to come into view of enemy fire.

I like it, aside from the fist.

I was never a huge fan of fists on my Mechs, always prefered it to just be a weapon like the right arm..

On the other hand in open terrain most unaimed shots will hit toward the center of your mass.

Checks and balances to everything. I hope the head section isn't too large on the Cataphract's ventral torso.

That's it. It just looks accurate, like it could place a round between your eyes at 700 meters. Thanks for pointing it out now.

I'm excited I'll get to pilot two mechs I've never piloted before. Don;t remember the Cataphract or Cicada in MechCommander or MC2 and I know for sure not in MW4.

I do love this mech. I have been running one in MW4....the 3L model too. We based ours off of the Avatar chassis for MW4 and got the JJ. I know it doesn't look quite right being on that chassis, but it has everything it's supposed to. This is going to be my favorite probably and I might even attempt to make love to it.

MW4? What mod are you running? It's not in MP3 from Mektek...
