It's a solid mech with a lot of good options. With mixed ballistics and energy it's got a very sustainable DPS for the tonnage, like the Whammy. It excels at grinding other heavies and assaults as well as slower mediums. It struggles against lights because you're likely DPS focused instead of big alpha focused. You're slower but tanker but I've had consistent success with a cautious approach, ballistic poking unit you've got some soft targets to push and overrun. The 1B Agent put up above is a great example - poke with the 5s, focus fire with teammates and when there's a group of 2 or 3 soft enemies on a flank lead the push in. If they're returning fire keep the twist shoot twist going, if they twist off to protect a soft torso just bull rush, ACs blazing.
It's got a distinctive, aggressive playstyle. I really enjoy it. Cautious advance to conserve your tankiness then line a couple pins up and bull rush them down.

If you can only ever embrace the meta, then this isn't the mech for you. If you can make other mechs work, then it is a lot of fun.
I scored 600dmg in an unmastered reaver yesterday, that mech is pretty badass.
Still trying to find a comfortable build for the 1A. The 1B i havent touched yet and the 1C with the build linked above is really the only way to go on that mech.
Game 4 with my Reaver....
Game 6...
After ten games with Reaver it was fully basic skilled...

It's a heavy, flightless Shadow Hawk and I'm ok with that. I boost the engine up to 300 at least and that should pay off well when I get speed tweak unlocked.
All in all it's not horrible and might be very good once we get used to it. It's obviously meant to have the skill tree with the lack of offensive quirks in a mech that desperately needs some help with firepower.

It wears both fairly well, the real problems it has are A.) getting out of its own way and B.) not being able to get the damage out like the competition.
Future tech can't get here soon enough, the LFE, MRMs, UAC/10, and UAC//20 are exactly what this thing needs.

Other then that it can be powerful depending on the Variant. I have done pretty well with the 1A, 2A and the 1C

Tanks well fer me man. I been brawlin like a madman. Gotta torso twist mang.
The torso twist speed aint bad neither. Its not good, but its not bad either.
Still gotta master em and do 30 drops. Then I can give a real review. A mech aint a mech till it's fully upgraded.

1A is super meh. Go-to build is an AC/20 with 2x SRM6A, but that's just a neutered version of the 1C. Can do twin UAC/5, too, but not a whole lot to supplement them and it has no quirks to support that at all. This is the first time I've ever seriously put LRMs on a 'Mech; a pair of LRM10A with either 2xAC/5 or a UAC/5 and an AC/2, with TAG. That one has had the most consistent results so far.
This is the variant that will benefit most from LFE, MRM, and UAC/20.
If PGI adds small cockpits, too...

I was also feeling like the CT was a giant bullet magnet, but that's probably a combination of not having them mastered, and my having been playing mostly light mechs for the last couple of months. The thing felt so slow when trying to TT that I was comparing yaw speed on Smurfys, but it isn't really any slower than other 65 tonners.
I'm really kicking myself for not having banked tens of thousands of GXP for this so I could insta-Basic all 6 variants.

Lord no, there's not a "good mech" in the entire pack. Sure, they can pull out some good games occasionally for the screenshots but hell, I've had 1000 point games in Vindicators.
They're not "terrible", they're just exceptionally average in a game where the only real use for average mechs is to get the better variants past basic.

I'll take a Jester or even a Rifleman (any Rifleman) over the Roughneck, every time. Hell, even the K2 is a better large laser boat.
