Hey
So I am still quite new at this game, and really like er large lazers (and the clan counterpart), and was wondering what would be a good heavy/assault mech for making a long range build with these.
I originally got the idea with the grasshopper because I could throw so many er large lazers on, and the energy range quirks and shorter duration would work well (and it is on sale), but thought there might be a better option and didn't know where to look.

Personally i would go for a trio of Ebon Jaguars, because they are on sale too. The EBJ can run a lot of different builds, including snipers. It is not the best sniper Mech, but it does a decent job at it and you can try almost all weapons, which is a big advantage for a new player.
There are other options as well, but do yourself a favor and stay away from Assaults. The tradeoff between speed and firepower works usually not in favor of new players, especially in the solo queue.

I would stay away from heavys and assaults if you want to do some laser sniping. If you want to snipe with those weight classes you better go with Gauss and/or PPC.
For laser sniping medium mechs (and some lights) do it way better. Mobility is key for relocating, finding good angles to attack and to get out of a bad position.
My favourite for ER Large lasers is the Cicada-2B with three of them. Raven (forgot the variant) is also a good option. For clanners the Shadow Cat with dual large pulse lasers is great too.

I do own the shadowcat already for a lighter role, but thanks for the help.

Just an update,
ended up buying the Ebon jaguar A,
and after a little experimentation followed by input from my brother I am running dual Uac-2s with 2.5 tons of ammo, 2 er large lazers, 3 er medium lazers, 5 heat sinks, and maxed out armor.
My first game with this specific build I did 702 damage, which was the highest in game.

If you are new you can try getting ECM mech for sniping.

Eh?
HBR (the F variant torso is better, but not everyone has it)
Or this:
WHK
The EBJ runs cooler than the HBR, but is easier to torso because you see it before you see the enemy (if in a sniper war).
Two of the best Hvy/Assault cERL snipers in the game. HBRs ECM makes it god of QP solo. You can stand 300m away from most people and they are too dumb to realise you are there.
Both those mechs serve me exceptionaslly well on cERL suitable maps in QP, even better in FP.
Obviously it'll suck if you're on Canyon in the WHK due to the mounts, but you take the good with the bad on the QP diceroll.
