Hi guys,

I've begun playing recently and my FPS is all over the place from 12-36.. drivers all up to date. This seems to be over my head. Is there something brutally obvious that I am missing here?? Would love to get this game running at 60FPS!

My setup is:

GPU- MSI R9 390 8G
CPU- i7 4790
16 GB RAM
750 Watt Power Supply
Windows 10 Home Edition

Any words of wisdom would be great!

Thanks.

What do you set your graphics details at? You should be able to maintain 60fps with that system. MWO really like high cpu clock cycles (above 4ghz), and the 4790 can't really OC.

I had everything set to max, so I set it to all to medium to test and still got dragged down to 12-27 fps during a game in Frozen city. I Noticed that maps like the Bog its the worst.

Turn particles to low, then slowly turn up everything else one at a time and test.

I think there is third-party software problem. Some video tweakers, CPU economizers and so on.

I agree, even at max the game should perform better than OP says on high end machine like his. Stable 60 might be difficult though.

So I would try to look for it outside of game.

This just gave me a thought....have you disabled xbox dvr on windows 10? Here's what I'm talking about: https://www.reddit.c...ary_update_got/

1st, Control Panel - Power Options, change from Power Saver/Balanced to High Performance. Other players have reported FPS issues that was caused the Power Options being reset back to Balanced/Power Saver after a windows update.

This is a great idea, but unfortunately I've done this already!

I'm thinking that its also a third party problem, but am not sure which program it could be..

Thanks, I have it set to High Performance already, I remember doing this after the Windows 10 update a while back.

Did you double check it though that it is still set that way now? Sorry, your reply does not indicate that it is set that way by checking it now, only that you remember doing it a while back.

My response is because other players had remarked that it was set to high performance but had not actually checked it at the time, then posted later that their issue/fps was fixed after they changed it back to high performance, unsure when it had been reverted back to default (balanced generally).

You would do well to start with the basics of optimizing your operating system. Ideally you would get your processes (check the task manager for this) down to below 50 (for Windows 10) by disabling items in startup. Take it slow, one item at a time, and report back. You should also uninstall useless software (bloatware) that comes with your PC.

Your system is as capable as mine (RX480, i5 6600k) and I get at least 90 fps at 1440. I have, however, tuned the hell out of my PC specifically for gaming.

How many processes are running after a clean boot?

My bad, I did check to see if it was set to Balanced/Power Saver or High Performance, and It is and was set to High Performance.

On a full reboot I have 51 background processes and 31 windows processes running. There are definitely a few things I could get rid of here.

Go to the Startup tab on the task manager and start from there. You can right click items and select disable. If you need them back you can always re-enable. It's the safe way to get started optimizing. Processes can be checked later.

You need to reboot and check one at a time. Then check under the performance tab to see if your Utilization and Processes are improving (decreasing).

check to see what other programs are running, ya never know, maybe something got turned on by accident.

As for in game settings, for me the biggest things to increase performance are particles and AA. Also turning off those 2 really don't bother me as far as looks go, you kinda get used to it. I do that and have no issues with my TI-550 card which is way old. then you can turn on lots more features to higher settings, and it looks pretty good. :)

But in that pic, seams like you have a bunch of self run stuff going on that really you don't need in the background. I dunno if that is causing it or not. a bunch of apple stuff, and auto run apps that you most likely don't need..

Only thing in my systray, antivirus, GPU monitor, steam, audio manager. goto start up, and just turn over thing off... then i just hot key Icons to all the stuff i need.. turn on your photoshop stuff when you use the program, to off the auto-update monitors.. ask your self.. DO i need this program running when i play mech warrior.. If not, disable it on start up and set up a link..

After deleting a few programs, I checked my Performance Tab to see the CPU usage and Utilization percentage.

1. is at start up

2. is just running mwo

3. running mwo in game

It doesn't seem like anything is being used up too much here?? :/

Here are my startup programs.. disabled lots of them:

you can also turn off, adobie updater, Creative upd, Deamon tools, Macrovision

Just make icons, or move the launch icons to an easy to get to spot.. I personally just use the tool bar at the bottom for anything like that. that should give you a little boost :)

85 processes is way too much for gaming! I would disable everything in startup but the two windows items at the bottom. Reboot and check again.

Oops! The razor synapse is probably for your mouse. You may need that to stay on.
