It was a joke made in the last NGNG podcast.
It obviously didn't go over so well with the people already annoyed at spending hundreds of dollars on the game only for the big mechcon reveal to be an increase to the games massive grind barrier.
Its not even about the C-bills IMO. It more or less a bottled up reaction to how sloppy PGI has been with their decisions for years now.

So, you can't address the problem, but are delighting in the discomfort of others. Sounds about right for the failed decision making process that's being seen more and more all over the place these days. If other people are unhappy, you're happy, because "haha, screw them." Right. Mature.
Well, you'll have plenty of time to fill the forums with stupid memes that aren't even funny while watching for a match to queue up after half the remaining MWO population leaves in the coming weeks and months. Have fun with that.

If you have watched the video you would have clearly heard Russ explain that he was talking about how people spend their C-Bills and not real money for MC.
If you are going to respond to some thing get it right. Stop using things as an excuse to throw self centered tantrum on the forums.

So... the plan is to insult people, de-level and de-quirk our mechs, and then hold them hostage behind a grind-wall in the hopes we'll all feel bad for PGI and spend lots of money regrinding them?
Yeah... not happening. I think people got it quite right when they were offended by Russ's insult.

Your plan seems to be as hyperbolic as you can and throw a hissy fit.
He was talking about how some players do not spend the earn in game money as much as others. He was not eloquent about it, most people are not. Just chill out, and take a moment to understand what a person is trying to say, rather than jump to a conclusion because it best reinforces what ever bias you have.

At no point should he have ever used that word. Period. Swapping modules is not being a "cheapskate". Minimizing the amount of C-bills you spend on modules (so you can spend those c-bills on mechs to get 3 to master) is not being a "cheapskate". A goodly chunk of the playerbase does not have trouble spending REAL MONEY, so implying that they have trouble spending spacebucks is just profoundly insulting.
Get over it. People use poor word choice all the time. Get off your high horse and relax.

- Making whales feel they've lost progress, without a makeup PR exercise, is a bad idea
- Making customizers feel they will lose the freedom to try builds is a bad idea
- Making IS mech players feel their mechs will lose what makes playing them fun, is a bad idea
All these will lead to a leaking playerbase. That's just a fact, it doesn't matter what you or I think about those players and their opinions or whether they're rational or silly. Loss of players is loss of players.

Players do not really have to literally abandon said virtual goods. They just need to stop playing long enough to make queue times horrific.

Agreed. On the ranking scale of Russ's insults to the community over the years, the "cheapskates" crack doesn't even make the top 3. I find the legendary "you're on an island" quote to be superior, and nothing beats the April town hall of last year with the whole "people should stop telling us how to make the game better, we know best" soliloquy. The top middle finger to the community line is from that same townhall where he said "you should be thanking me for making the game". That one is my personal favorite. Just the whole vibe was great. Lets also not forget past townhalls where Russ was drunk. Nothing says I respect my customers and community more than repeatedly holding PR events where you get drunk.
Yeah, people need to cut poor Russ a break.

Are you saying Russ was just doing a Donald, that he really did not mean what he said?
God Bless 'Murika! And may Canada join the Union!

Are you new around here? Or, have you just conveniently forgotten the track record PGI and Russ have on this type of things? Sounds like you're on an island and should be thanking Russ every day for creating this glorious, perfect game that only he understands and can balance.
As for bashing "my plan," no... what I stated is EXACTLY what's happening. Feel free to pretend it's not if that offers you any consulation.
