After a long Hiatus of not playing MWO and other games, I started to play a bit again. But I feel like the way I used to play is no longer there, so trying to get back into it and recorded a few games with text commentary.

This and a few more I have planned over the next few days involve the IIC collection (Minus the MADIIC), and I'm hoping that some of you can help give some tips or tricks or even builds or tactics you use for any of you that use these.

Here's the Video; the build is a hybrid LRM+Direct Fire support. Inside the 1st minute of the video I made sure to put down the mech's weapons, engine, and upgrades.

I'd also like to ask; when the Skill tree comes, will PGI allow some mechs to retain perma quirks, or are they all going to be equal, with all mechs having no quirks and the player having to apply them?

Appreciate any feedback;

Derek.

Russ has stated, on Twitter, that some 'Mechs would be retaining some level of built-in quirks. Beyond that, we have no idea how they plan to balance skill trees.

Okay, I've got to ask before anything else, what is your brightness set to? Really hurts to watch that for me.

I'll give you a screenshot in a second. it's turned up so that I can see things easier. I think the monitor doesn't light up too well, so I turn up the brightness to compensate.

Where it starts going wonky for you is when you get on the base with everybody else. That's way too many people in such a constrained space; if the enemy had been packing strikes, that would have messed the lot of you up something fierce. You ended up taking some avoidable damage because you were stuck in that corridor for so long. With the range on your weapons, you want to be kind of around the outskirts. Being further down the tracks, closer to the tunnel (C6-D6 corner), would have been ideal; the mountain would have covered fire coming from the enemy 'Mechs hugging it, and everybody who came piledriving toward the base along the shore would have had only a narrow space to shoot you through. Meanwhile, all those locks would have let you throw free damage into the enemy.

When you first went after the Cyclops, you got extremely lucky because that EBJ to your right had poor aim/fire discipline and dumped his firepower into your arm. You could have and should have seen him there before you went for the Cyclops, and it would have been preferable to prioritize him, first. Then you could have rounded the corner for the Cyclops with your right flank clear. When you did shoot the Cyclops, you fired for ST before having paper doll. You should always aim CT when you don't have a read-out unless you know it's an assym build, have seen the weapons being used already, or it's one of those 'Mechs that always runs XL (the Cyclops is 50/50, not enough to aim ST with confidence).

That's all I got for now.

It's that map. It's like the gamma is cranked way up on Crimson. Every other map looks fine on my monitor, but Crimson is always washed out like that.

I just know that on my screen, it's nowhere near that bright. I would never be able to aim if it was like that on my end.

Welcome back, also playing again, a bit, after a long break.

For the IICs, the hunchback has been decent when I have ran it. Can do gauss and lasers, laser vomit, or missles and lasers. Specifically, I like gauss and 2 erll, 2 erll and 4 erml (I think), and 2 lrm 10s with 2 erll. Don't recall the variant names, on my phone. I've also been using my spider 5k more, so I am a bit forgetful on my HBK IICs.

Good hunting!

I knew that spot was a horrible place, but when the lancemate noted the Marauder IIC in the back, that took out our shadowcat, I wasn't taking any chances that their might be another one. Just my paranoia I guess.

The Ebon Jaguar was indeed a lucky one, as well as when I rushed their cap point towards the end. I knew I was going to get crapped on, just didn't know if I'd survived. Lucky me.

and again, appreciate the info, might help me in the future for when we do something like that again.

Yeah, I have my brightness and gamma ridiculously jacked up because my monitor is not so bright. I lower gamma considerably before a match starts on polar or frozen city, though.

That's fine, but you should have gotten out of there once you saw the main force coming down that hill. Looping around toward the C7 side of your grid would have put you in a better firing position without exposing you to counter-battery.

Realize I also forgot to address the tactics side. I usually like to do fire support as well. I play much the same as I used to, just a bit
more paranoid with the increased damage. I'll stay with the group usually trying to flank and attack from the sides. The main thing I saw in your video, as Yeonne pointed out, was getting in too close with everyone, but that happens to us all sometimes I think, especially in the heat of the moment. You can also afford to be closer with the Highlander, since it is tankier. You also seem to be aware of this already, given your comments in the video, so my last comment would be mind spacing, and keep doing what you're doing!

Least I survived huh? :>

hopefully the HGN IIC won't lose all of its quirks. I'm hoping it'll be allowed to keep some so that it can become quite a contender in the future.

Welcome back, Derek. I've stolen the Dartboard of Destiny from PGI HQ in your absence. It was a perilous journey that cost the lives of a hundred hamsters, two unpaid interns and three pizza delivery men. They were all added to the rememberance.

I think a lot of us have that hope for a lot of 'Mechs.

Happy to see you :-)

Feedback:
- Sound volume is way to low
- That antiquated bitching betty soundset is worse than MWOs (i know it's not cool to like the new stuff, but the MWO BB is indeed the best so far)
- IMHO, the ERML is too much. 4 weapon systems is too much. You'll end up causing heat but dealing no damage with it a lot times.
- Do you really need artemis if you're fire supporting? That 2/2 that could be spent more efficiently. 3/3 even with the ERML.
- For a dedicated LRM Mech, you have too few LRMs and too much other stuff. For a direct fire Mech, the LRMs are too big to be just a secondary. My tip: even 2xLRM5 can nicely press enemies into cover and help team mates without costing much tonnage. And the total damage output is the same.

WB...still just a bunch of generic gunbags, with the same pokey crap game play, same mechanical flaws, low TTK, etc. Meta has shifted a bit, but otherwise..SSDD

I mean I get to do stuff like this. Makes me laugh because of how ridiculous it can get... in both combat and cosmetics:
