The original design for the storm crow also had arms overhead like the firemoth. I think it fairly obvious they would be modified.

Hmm. I know I've seen one like that. Maybe it was just one that had the arms glued on upside down.

If they make up a new mech that is actually somewhat different from existing mechs, then it's okay and justified.

If they make up a new mech that does nothing special, like the Roughneck, then there isn't any reason to do this instead of just using one of the preexisting BT mechs that also don't do anything special.

The Stormcrow never had the epic Firemoth hands.

Related to my last post, I got a couple friends I deployed with at least twice over at my house, so I might or might not shitpost later on. I apologize in advance.

If they make a mech with the backing of Bills(catalyst). Then I am good with a Clan mech, original made by PGI

I honestly think some of the backlash the Roughneck got was people being triggered by the fact it was a re-purposed industrial mech and that reminds them of Dark Ages, which from what i gather had the same affection that Age of S***mar has with Warhammer Fantasy fans, none to utter disgust and loathing......Buuut i do think another portion is people just being hip and hating on PGI because it's the cool thing to do on the forum.

If PGI ever makes an original clan mech, it should epitomize the clans in their perceived superiority.

The roughneck epitomizes the drive to fight back against a technologically superior enemy by turning what is essentially a 3050 version of a farming implement, into something that can shoot back at clanners.

The Clan version of that would be something that epitomizes the military life, service, and honor. Something like a centurion perhaps..

Let's give it good shield arms, a well-rounded mixed build with lasers, LRM's and some balistics, and make it look like an modern humanoid monstrosity. (Thinking of a heavy chassis that is a cross between a Centurion and an Atlas visually, but rounder, with a more "advanced" design like the IIC line)

Lore-wise, it could be represented as a throw-away training mech, given to cadets, bondsmen, and dezgra, to teach them the proper clan way, but re-purposed for frontline combat.

Possible names include: Spartan, Zellmech, Dezgran, Bondermech, Affneg and Expender.

Naturally has to be a Clan Battlemech, and naturally has to be a 75 tonner.

If we're talking about a Clan based original mech with a strong tie to lore, I'd like to see something like the Vixen.

http://www.sarna.net.../Incubus_(Vixen)

An original mech that was developed with an eye towards 1 v 1 honor duels. If I had to pick a tonnage, I'd like to see a medium, either a 40 ton or 55 ton due to what is already available.

Edit - you will need to add an ending parenthesis to the link above due to this forum having a stupid format issue or something.

The Locust IIC is 25 tons though.

There really aren't a lot of Clan 20 tonners, and most of them have some issue.
Fire Moth is pressed up against the speed cap, and will need it's MASC handled somehow.
Piranha has a dizzying number of machine guns. It's possible it could be problematic (or not.)
Howler is ******* ugly as sin.

While I do not particularly like PGI originals (or perhaps it's more accurate to say I like existing 'mechs more,) I think a 20 ton Clan 'mech is one of the most reasonable places for PGI to come up with their own thing... (as opposed to... say... the 65 ton IS slot.)

Howler may be ugly, but at least it isn't a glorified Locust reskin.

Bah. If it were to be the epitome of Clan design and tech, I'd demand it be a chicken walker. Always though those looked the coolest and most "futuristic". Always though humanoids looked ugly as sin as well.

(Or it could be a quad.)

The closest available is the BLanner which only lacks JJs and pod space.

Lacks JJs. Unable to mount 2xERPPC due to lack of tonnage. Would not buy.

Nothing exists in Canon that ticks all the boxes i want ticked, im entirely certain.

For the OP. I'd say I personally don't care, I have a Kodiak and that's all I wanted :)
The fact that it's a top tier mech has nothing to do with it. It's a bear mech. Now we just need melee.

I think this could be easily achieved by creating a 95 ton version of the Mist Lynx. Every single time one runs past me with its legs out in front looking as though they were trying to escape from the rest of itself I shake my head.

If they have made one for the IS doesn't it stand to reason that they should make one for the Clans? From a legacy standpoint for the company it makes sense.

Personally I would like to see it. Really surprised no one else has mentioned it so I must be either really off or crazy, but regardless I also want it to be a 65 tonner like the Roughneck and a direct competitor. Want them to be as equal as possible however. It makes sense to me that you would be able to see the two face off against each other. Really hope someone at PGI is thinking the same way I am as I really think that would make their creation or potentially creations, more interesting.

Firestoat and his idea of it being linked to the Vixen might be the perfect inroad if this could pan out. It actually gets me kind of hyped thinking about it and now I am really hoping that this rivalry is born.

I´d totally buy that and put the smokejag camo on it. The crotch ppc is way to low tho.
